it would be like storing DEF right next to the hot water heater, not good.

Maybe an old school gravity furnace. Today's modern hot water tanks are well insulated and very little to no heat radiates from the sides of them.

This is why I don't believe 80% of what the drama media say. They are more interested in ratings than they are your life!

Total BS as DEF is simply a urea and water solution and is made in the USA and not shipped in on a boat. DEF has a storage life of about 6 months and a gallon of DEF is enough for 95 gallons of diesel with any truck. If someone has a pickup they are getting 15 mpg or better and so one gallon of DEF is enough to drive 1,425 miles.

But on the other hand we are running out of brains in this country and fewer and fewer people are able to use what little they have. Now this is a serious shortage.

Seems that way get on Facebook ram groups the type of questions people ask. They literally are on a phone capable of a lot and can not type that question into Google which will actually pop up 50 sites with the answer lol.

<rant> I can’t stand Facebook for just that reason. I have an account so I can watch friends and family when it becomes time to do so but that's about it.

You can argue the same thing on here too - new OP flying by to drop a rando question. I try not to judge and at least give it a shot. It is fairly impressive the number of people who do think work such as mechanical repair is easy. And I also get surprised how many folks don't do research on their own. If I look back at some of the questions I am answering, I had the luck to ask someone in person, in local groups and meetups before the internet was the thing it is today.

I also just dove in, and read lots of books - there were always the Chilton and Haynes manuals. That was our internet, our training without formal mechanics school or auto shop.

My first head gasket was replaced on a Dodge minivan. I read the Chiltons manual for the procedure and to purchase the proper tools. I was in my 20s, broke as hell so I could only buy what I exactly needed. I put screws in baggies with stick notes on what it was for - other times with the component I removed.

Last, DEF supply chain issues, well let us just add it to the list of all the messed up ****. Let's not start or contribute to hysteria. At this point, there is little any of us can actually do. </rant>

I used a lot of egg cartons and zip locks. The reason I found this page I was researching my 4th gen led head lights and found alfaobd. Decided to join and stay but I see a lot more people join Just to ask one question and never come back. I am afraid this is the new generation and forums will be dead in the next 10 years. I can see a little bit of a shortage on DEF but not like they are projecting it as. More of labor shortage and shipping issues makes more sense.

I grew up with forums they have Been encyclopedia for me. The new generation will ruin it for formal forums. Reddit had already shown that as its Walmart for forums. Like wise to meet you too. My dad would never come out to show me anything. He would answer any questions but not physically show me. He just said Chiltons showed me lol. Iooking back I am was better off learning by myself as I know how to look up and research things better.

My Uncle offered to fix it, what he meant was my 16 year old butt was going to fix it, as he was upstairs in his house, watching tv with my Aunt.

I went to local Walmart and there was a long line going around the building I thought it might be covid restrictions but it turns out its DEF shortage and there are signs on the doors stating limits on DEF sales goes into effect tomorrow!!!!!! Price hike of $20.00 or more $70.00 Five gallon limit.

In mostly empty driving my 19 Cummins HO uses a 2.5 gal jug in about 1600-1800 miles. When towing heavy, it uses a lot more.

The EcoDiesel fairs a little better, I'm usually north of 1100 miles/gallon of DEF. It's to be expected as DEF consumption is related to how much fuel is being used.
