Anybody have the clunk sound/feeling where it almost feels like you are in neutral when you take off from a dead stop? Maybe a ujoint sensation...

If you’ve taken it in for warranty work/repair what was the diagnosis?

This is on the 8 speed automatic transmission and I’ve read somewhere that this is a common issue?

For some reason your reply doesn’t help provide a resolution. When I did a search I just saw more questions than fixes.

From what I've seen in this forum, it's due to the "split" 2 section rear driveshaft binding at the splines where the 2 join. The correction is to grease the splines.

my 2010 did something like that, and my 2018 does it too. Though mine does it when I come to a complete stop, it acts like it wants to lurch forward. Sometimes in my 2010 when I stopped at a stop light or traffic, and it did it, I thought I got bumped. No issues with my '10 on the rear end gears though, had 109,000 miles when I traded it in.

Yep. The clunking is very annoying. My 2014 2500 does it. My 2006 f150 did it. Both only thing I’ve heard anybody say is to grease the splines. I believe ford had a tsb to correct the issue was to grease the splines. Then you’d have to go back in and do it again when clunk comes back. No rear end issues form either truck everything works as it should. The shift points in the ram coupled with the clunk seem to make me a little more annoyed in traffic. Oh well maybe net truck won’t have a clunk. FYI I’ve had a clunky truck for 4 years now :banghead:

I have a '17 1500 that had the thump. The dealer updated the "PCM" "TCM" and did a "Quick learn" 2 weeks ago that corrected the problem.

Had a Grand Caravan that made the 'clunk' sound. Sounded like a bowling ball hitting the carpeted back of the trunk of a car. Always after leaving a stop, always on moderate acceleration. If you are suffering from this sound, my sympathies. Used to drive me nuts.

Just left the dealership for the clunk and I’m happy to report it’s fixed. I have a 15 Ram 1500 Lonestar Edition. They performed TSB 18-021-17 for software updates. Took less than an hour.
