Well since we have around 25% drive train loss... 10% would be close to half.

I think you are missing the point here... The converter is responcible for around 14% of the overall drivetrain loss, give or take, that is about half of the overall drivetrain loss the other half is from it goin through the trans, driveshaft, rear end, and to the ground. So for a 50% reduction, you are basically taking the TC completely out of the picture which you cannot do. Now I can believe that it is half the loss through the converter itself (so a 7% reduction) which is about where everyone elses is at. That is still a lot of power when you actually add up how much 7% really is. But its not a 50% overall reduction....

OK, 33%. It's still an impressive amount on a cammed truck.

A trans jack is a must. I'm a skinny guy so I can't be muscling a trans around!

There aren't too many guys who can muscle around one of these trans while under the truck. They are pretty damn big.

Can't wait to hear the before and after results of the install.

about 250lbs. the freight bill for my tranny says that. so take out the small pallet, and add a tailpiece, and it sounds right to me.

you wont make a mess if you are only swapping the TC. dont even need to drop the pan. shouldnt spill much, if anything at all. good luck with the install. and drop me a line if you run into any snags. also, if you feel that you are shifting funny after the install, get a quick learn done. sharadon has advised me that any time you swap a VB, TC, or solenoid pack, you SHOULD get a quick learn done. but if it feels fine, you will be good without one.

hemiguy- i have basically the same thing that frog is getting. it tows just fine. you will feel that little bit of extra slippage at take off. but for me, it works great. it makes for a smoother, less jerky take off, and the horses enjoy that im sure. as for heat, you are going to want a large cooler if you dont have one already. with my large cooler, and deep pan, i stay at or below 180 while towing a fairly substantial load.

I wanted a 2800 stall but hearing the issues that will come up with towing im just going with a stock 4.7 verter unless I come across a nice edge or circle d. OLDIRTYJOHN how much power does that beaver mod add?

I'm coming up on 30K miles so I'm going to go ahead and drop the pan for a service while I'm at it. Great time to change ALL the fluid. I'll let the cooler lines drip into a bucket while I'm at it. I'm also going to get a drain plug welded into the pan while I have it off. I'll pull the tranny while it's empty, that should shave a few pounds off also. lol

Just keep an eye on your temps with the converter, they will go up. I went a head and bought the cooler off an 03-04 2500 and mounted it with no issues. Just used the stock mounting points. my temps with and without the converter now are about the same its 115* out and I'm barely hitting 160* on my drive home in stop and go traffic. In the winter it never goes above 140* so I would HIGHLY reccomend that if you dont have one you go pick one up. An extra $150 for a little reassurance is well worth it.

It all depends. Dodge uses so many different coolers that one guys 1500 cooler may be bigger than another guys 2500 cooler.

Here is my 1500 "tow package" cooler-

That would be a 16 row cooler. The one out of the 03 to 04 2500s are 26 row coolers.

Hemiguy - you'll be fine with the 26 row thats all mine is. For whatever reason in the 05+ they dirched the 26 row one and dropped everyone down to the 16 row one. I guess the theory was the 26 row was cooling it off to much for the trans to function correctly in the colder climates. Also why they changed the HD cooler from the 26 row to a billet aluminum 16 or 18 row cooler.

Those running a higher stall TC will certainly be spinning tires. That is basically what is keeping our trucks from being quicker. That and being light in the a$$.
