Lost my cruise control about two months ago. You ccould turn it on, but as soon as you exceeded about 5 mph, it turns off. Did a BUNCH of online reading about this. Most likely culprit was the front wheel speed sensor, located on the drives side. Found some very good tutorials on how to test that sensor.
So, I jacked up the front wheel, pulled loose the plug under the wheel well, and attached my meter to the two leads inside. I have a Fluke 863 Graphical meter, so it has a o'scope function. I spun the wheel and got NOTHING. I did this several time to insure that it was consistent.
Found a replacement sensor on 1A Auto.
This evening after work, I pulled off the wheel. The sensor is right behind the rotor, so I involves partially disconnecting the disk brake caliper holder and moving it just enough to get the rotor off its seat. The you can access the sensor. Once small allen wrench bolt holds it in. Replace the sensor wit the new one and put the rotor and caliper back into position. Then, I connected my meter to the new sensor and spun the hub. SIGNAL.
Put it all back together and did the test drive. Success.
This was a $25 part. Saved me hundreds, probably.
I believe it was on this forum that I read that someone else with the same cruise control issue replaced this sensor. Thanks to Ram Forums.
Attached are pics of the old sensor head. It is very oily. Most likely the culprit to its failure.
