I finally got around to installing some Sylvania SilverStar headlights in my 2012 Ram Sport 1500. Low beams are H11 and the Hi beams are 9005. I am going to pick up a set of silverstar 9145 bulbs for my fog lights so it all matches since I tend to drive with my fogs on most of the time.

Installation sucks to say the least, start by taping a row or two to the top of your front bumper as close to the grill as possible and around the headlight areas. remove the upper radiator shroud/cover above the grill then remove the four 10mm bolts holding the top of the grille to the core support. carefully pull and/or reach in and push the bottom of the grill out to release the spring clips, this is where the tape comes into place so you don't scratch the top of your painted bumper. Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the headlight in place near the grill opening. Turn tires and open access panel, 2012's have a push clip holding the cover closed. Once open reach in and push the rear headlight retainer up then use two hands and pull out on the headlamp, it will be tight due to the ball style retainer holding the headlamp housing in place. replace bulbs and reassemble in reverse order. Doesn't take long, it's just a PITA to have to go through so much work just to replace a headlight bulb!!!

To save some time, in the future, if you have some extensions you can actually remove the headlights without removing the grille. I've done it like half a dozen times now, a lot easier and quicker. All you need to do is pop the two outside push pins on the upper radiator shroud then using a combination of a socket and wrench, remove the top bolt then with a long extension, remove the bottom bolt. Might want to put some tape on the socket too to make removing and installing the bottom bolt a lot easier. Then pop that white tab inside the wheel well and all done.

yes removing the heads is definitely a pita and getting them back in and lined up right isn't fun either.

Yes I am very happy with them, I installed the original silverstars. I also picked up the 9145's for the fogs and it looks great!!!

Don't the Silverstars have a reputation for burning out fast? Maybe it's just the Ultras. I've had them before and they are white compared to the stock but somewhere I read that they sort of overdrive the bulb and they don't last long.

Life is about 80% compared to a standard bulb and the ultras are like 60-70%. Much brighter than standard bulbs so well worth it IMO. Ill snap some night pics tomorrow evening.

I have all the bulbs and STILL haven't installed them. Maybe tomorrow morning THAT'S what I should do! I guess I should take the before mod pic tonight so I can see heat they look like tomorrow as well. I've used the Silverstars and always been happy with them. Yes, they do burn out faster but I've been next to BMW's with their stock HID's and my lights are the same temperature and intensity as theirs. That's in my car. I'm sure the truck height wil make it look a little different. The last set of lights I got for my car was the Ultras and they rock! That's what I got for the truck. A full set of Ultras, four bulbs for the quad headlights and fogs.

I had them in my previous GMC so I knew I would be happy with them and now that the Ram has them Im very pleased!!! I always use the regular Silverstars since Im not much for the super blue appearance, I prefer a nice clean and crisp super bright white light output. If you want more blue then try the new Silverstar ZXE bulbs which are a bright blue.
