Hello All,
I installed a tailgate light bar,OPT 7. Weird thing is on occaision when i shut truck off the taillight stays on.
How could this part of the bar be getting power with the truck off and parked? I wired in a flat connector to plug into the trailer hitch plug. with the exception of having to tap the reverse light wire. What gives? this seems impossible. Thanks

Do the truck taillights stay on or is it the light bars stays on ? For trouble shooting purpose, I would unplug the light bar and see if you have any issues. Just FYI, I know several people that have weird problems with their Opt 7 light bars, and they had them replaced under warranty. So it is possible the issue is the light bar.

are you using the 4 prong connector/adapter into the 7 prong plug? sometimes there is constant power there for keeping a trailer battery charged.

don't use the 7 prong connector, only the 4 prong

or, if you hard wired it, recheck your wiring to make sure you didn't tap into that specific wire.

the 4 prong outlet should never has constant power, it's just ground, brakes, running, and turns.

Hello All
Just the light bar light stays on. It is plugged into the 4-flat of the truck. Even if the OPT light bar had issues, it cant make the truck give it power with every thing off.
Thats what has me puzzled. lol Thanks

Did you tap one of the reverse taillights or the reverse wire in the trailer harness? If you tapped a reverse light try disconnecting that wire temporarily to see if the problem goes away.

The CURT 56584 plugs into the trailer harness under the truck and gives you a 5-flat plug for wiring a tailgate light bar to. The 5-flat includes the reverse pin which is typically used by trailers with surge brake lock out solenoids.

unplug it...get a meter...with the truck OFF...check the connectors in that 4 prong outlet...be sure to use the ground in the plug terminals.

if there's power in any of them, you have an issue up front in or near the fuse box (s)

"If your rear light bar stays on even when your car is off, it usually indicates a problem with the electrical wiring or switch controlling the light bar, potentially caused by a faulty switch, damaged wires, a short circuit, or a malfunctioning relay that isn't properly cutting power to the light bar when it should be off; check for any visible damage to the wiring and switch,"

Hello All
This thing with the light bar staying lit was during the day when lights were not on anyway. After parked a bit later my neighbor calls and says bar is on.
this happened on 2 occasions maybe a year apart. Not the whole bar on JUST the main red or top is on. WEIRD. Thanks
