I have had mine unplugged for atleast a year or more and now it functions just like a normal old tailgate that I can lock with the key.
I dont think the truck even knows it is unplugged as I never haf a light or problem locking the truck.

I knew the day I bought it that the locking tailgate was not for me, now like has been said if it had its own button it would have been fine.

Thanks, I will do this on my next off days.
Another question for you, is the lock the type that is always locked or is it possible to leave it unlocked? Thanks!
