Haha. Let's just say 8-9 months the collector rotted out and melted my knock sensor. They don't Honor warranties and they don't have a quality product. Spend the extra and get quality trust me! The absolute worst part Is doing the job twice and spending the money twice knowing had you just bought quality first you'd have a good set of long tubes out of the deal.

Just my 2¢ and expericnece.

Long tube would be a waist of time and money unless you have added lots of intake lift bigger tb along with better flowing heads 3 " ex true dule pipes. Long is for scavenging that's it. Short is for torque low end cylinder pressure. Long is up top end cylinder pressure so f*** all the long tube b.s.
Or maybe he is gonna 1/4 mile it ?!??

The later 5.7's are a bit different then your earlier 318 are,and they actually gain torque down low from long tubes, while shorties are more a mid range top-end pull style header. The stock exhaust manifolds on the 5.7's is a very restrictive log manifold with basically peanut sized ports. If you ever get a look at a later 5.7 manifold whether it be car or truck, you'll honestly wonder how in hell they pull almost 400hp and 410 lb-ft of torque out of the engines in the trucks and 375hp in the cars. There's times I think you don't realize you're in the later 4th Gen section, lol

Dang I do for get Im stuck in the past. [emoji88] o well the restricted manifolds with pea-sized ports essentially bought at 410 horsepower and torque right that's probably why sometimes the stock intake manifolds are better than high performance even with high and flowing heads it all boils down to how fast you want to rev there you want to build it all f****** badass get there right now high RPMs that's going to be horsepower otherwise you need to restrict it low end cylinder pressure that's gonna pull. Long tube is great for scavenger no stock engine was ever set up for scavenging I promise you not sense at least 1972 73. Well maybe the LS things of that nature. It really depends on his set up. Without the specs I should probably be quit cuzz u might be right on.

When you figure the highest horsepowered stock smallblock LA was the 69/70 340's at 275 with-out the cumbersomes of alternator etc.,the 5.7 at 345 cubic inches and 395hp kinda makes the old high power 340 look like a boat anchor now,and actually gets good gas milege in comparision, and is a pleasure to drive, lol.

These Gen 3 345s make damn near 400whp with the stock head/cam, full bolt-ons combo on a good cocktail of timing and octane

Fitment of shorties is sporadic too. Mine seal perfectly fine at the collectors but there have been cases where they don't seal right and people just go back to manifolds. Honestly if mine ever crack or anything I'll probably just go back to manifolds with some ARP bolts....

After replacing gaskets twice on both sides I learned you need to tighten them down from the center first then alternating to the ends. Do that two or three times then get up to operating temp and tightened both sides one more time in the same sequence. I have not had a leak yet after 4 years.

If you don't have a torque sequence to guide you Dan,always torque things in a progressively larger circle, starting from the center out. There's the odd torque sequence that doesn't follow the old rule of torqueing in a circle, but for the majority of cylinder heads/exhaust manifolds etc.,using the old circle technic is generally fairly close to the proper sequence

JBAs silver ceramic shorties have held up with many members, they just had a quality spill on the cone size that you’ll want to verify before installing.

That's what I put on. I live in the Northeast with lots of Salt on roads. Holding up nicely.

Use Remflex Gaskets with the bolts that come with them. They are only torqued to 18 ftlbs so no need for grade 8 Bolts

I've been running BBK shorties for 3 years with absolutely 0 issues. If you aren't worried about performance, do the shorties. Long tubes are better but more expensive and require a little more work to install. Not to mention that you will most definitely be louder with the long tubes. Just my opinion if you don't plan on any performance upgrades in the near future.

I’m presuming you have the stainless steel silver ceramic?

Every mild steel chrome version I know of has failed one way or another.
