My first generation Dodge D 100 has the 5.2 litre (318 cc engine) the temperature guage needle moves to the right as engine warms up. I feel at 3/4 movement on guage shutdown engine should occur. At idle engine temperature is( just) below half . I have a new radiator, coolant set to -35 C (-31 F). Thermostat installed 190 F or 195 F. The engine coolant bypass hose blew last Fall. It was rotten. Just replaced headbgasketJjThinking about buying a temperature guage with numbers

There is no auto shutdown.
At 3/4 is it in the red or still the normal range?
Could be running warm, could also be just the way the gauge reads.

I agree it would be good to have an actual temperature.

Is the heater output really hot?

I hope to install a new idle air controller soon. Part has been Purolater couriered up from Kentucky to the Prairie Province of Saskatchewan to city of Prince Albert about 1.5m hour W of our farm. Then will let you know. (-36 Celcius here) too cold to work in unheated garage

Wel I missed something in your statement .
But I have a 1988 5.2V8. D250. yes 5.2.
My dash gauges don't work so I installed a manual temp gauge & I'll get my dash gauges working later.
.... Hope that advise will help you somewhat. At least with the manual added you'll know how close your dash gauge is showing .
