Quite a few 2G's in the NY/NJ area. Even with the salty roads. Always good to see one pop up somewhere, while I'm driving mine.

Funny thing, when I first saw the 94's, I thought they were ridiculous-looking. The headlights were lower than the hood, the big bulging dome and grille, etc. Then, I really started looking closely, and couldn't stop! They had a completely different, menacing look! And when NY changed it's emission laws, I wasn't going to get my Charger inspected. I started researching.

Nov. 1998, I custom ordered my 99 Sport. 26 years later, she's still my daily driver. 360, auto tranny, 3:55 gears, NOTHING rebuilt with 244,***. When people see my truck, they know it's me!

I've got both a 99 5.2L and a 2020 5.7L etorque.

The 99 I bought w 140K miles around 2010 for $2500. It soon needed transmission ($1500) and the dash did it's thing. I'm at 230K now and it's running great but lost a little punch above 75mph. I repainted it last year myself (grade D-).

My 2020 has only 35K miles and I realize when a computer fails or a tranny, it's gonna cost a fortune.

I'm hanging onto the 99 despite the cosmetic issues cause it's always going to be easy to keep on the road.

I've heard a few people mention a similar reaction, but like you the new style gradually grew on them until they ended up buying one. That styling was soon imitated by other manufacturers across the board, but as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This is mine. Due to the attention it gets I took the Cummins badges off out of fear the truck would go somewhere without me one day.

I could not get further than about six lines of text then it all melted into a glob.

It is very difficult to comprehend in my head to many letters without some spaces here and there.

I will try after medication to see if it helps me .

Or maybe a piece of paper to cover and break it up some.
I tend to do that , and usally post the story and proof read after the fact and wonder what the hell is that.
I spell great in my head , but the fingers are illiterate I think.
It don't help that all the paint id gone off my keyboard, but poor old putor is on its' last legs.

Back to the trucks, There are lots of 2nd gen around here, but this is cow and grain country, so they tend to get beat on a bit , and we can have a rust problem , Chev is way worse for rust,
Fords just fade into the ground it seem like.

All mine where gas motors , but that 94 or 95? was about as good as it got, son in law got it when I bought a new one. seems like most older ones I see are the 3/4 or1t with the Cummins, great set up.

When i bought the 94 , blk, club cab ( just 2 doors at that time) but full back seat, Dad had a quite new late '80's and really liked mine, he thought about a new one , but for all he drove it, at his age , never bothered, plus he had 3 others ,depending on if he was working, going to town or herding cows , in his 80's
BTW , one of his early one's, 51 IHC short box 1/2ton is now heading to the 4 the generation in the family , but they are a bit young yet.

There is a minty brown one like mine still running around '95 I think, it must live in the garage all winter like mine as it still looks great. I think the 1995 was a 3 door truck, and the mag wheels where different.

There i am rambling again.
P>S> Tank guy, there where 2 in town with that same paint, one was a reg can long box, still out there and the other short , cc I han't seen for a while.

Original owner of 1997 3/4 ton, 5 speed V10 4x4. Awesome truck when new and still is. Only has 128,000 miles on the odometer. Only parts outside brake job(once) and oil/filters and tires, was a real all metal radiator and valve covers gaskets. Now if someone would offer a quality dash frame, I'm in. My 06 3500 4x4 cummins has 260,000 and only problem since new front right hub, blend doors, drive shaft bearing.

V10? That's awesome. If my W250 broke down tomorrow that's what I'd buy.

V10 is on my bucket list, saw one this morning on market place that some guy is parting out. It looks good, wish I could buy it from him.

the inlaws retired out of Canadian air force about 20 yrs ago and a bit later upgraded the camper van to a Ford class B ( I think), one ton V10 gas motor.

Son in law said in the rocky mountains you did not feel the climb, other then the gas gauge unwound like a busted clock.

He said it made about 4-5 m/g , on average. I never drove it to see what it felt like .
I use to make that mileage with 10 ton of wheat on my 354 ci grain truck, the diesel was 2x as good.

I own a 2023 Ram 1500 with Etorque and now have this 2001 Dodge Ram. I bought the 2nd Gen because it has a 8ft bed and I’ve always liked the older trucks. I can’t do anything out of my 2023 Ram with that short bed it has, It seems to run out of room as soon as I put a few things in it. I’m a painter and need that long bed to put tools and materials in, if it happens that it’s a cool looking truck then I’m good with that too.

Sorry about that. It got a bit longer than I intended.
Good read. Well separated paragraphs. In hindsight, they were awesome trucks. You want to read something bad,, try reading something with ,say, a 1000 words with not one break between sentences or paragraphs. Thats a glob!

I read your post. I almost didn’t because it was a little daunting to see a single huge post, but it was an interesting read. If you don’t mind a little unsolicited advice, next time try organizing your thoughts into paragraphs if you want to make a long post.

My step dad bought a ‘97 half ton in silver. I enjoyed it when he’d let me borrow it for landfill runs. It stayed in the family until a few years ago when it finally gave up the ghost. It had over 350k miles on it lol.
There is ten different paragraphs! How many do you need?

I agree that when taken out of context my post didn't make sense. That's when you might have looked back and read the earlier posts. If you had done that you would have seen that he went back and updated the original post to break it up. His original post was one long paragraph.

Yes I didn't see the original. I just saw the one with 10 paragraphs labeled as #1 post. Thanks for letting me know.

He's the reason the paragraphs are separated. When first posted it was one long group of sentences, but per his advice I broke it up to make it easier to read.
All good here. I've read posts like on FB with hundreds of unseperated lines and words. Like He said,, couldn't get past the first couple lines.

Got a 2002 2500, 5.9 Cummins, 6 speed tranny that I bought used with around 90k miles on it. The PO was an elderly couple who must not have ever put anything in the bed, because I couldn't find a scratch in it. Only thing I have ever done to it with the exception of oil changes and regular maintenance is one lift pump, a windshield washer pump and tires. I did have to have a rebuilt tranny, due to the shop where I was getting oil changes and lubes not checking the transmission for proper level of fluid. Also, after using up the rear end of a Toyota Camry with the front end of the truck, I replaced the crappy plastic-laden bumper with a 4th Gen bumper. Oh, by the way, I am currently right at 234,000 miles.

Dude, your letter was perfect, don't need to be Steven King to get your thoughts across. I too was excited when the 2nd gens came out, but I was no way successful enough to buy one. Finally got one though. 2001 with 29,000 mi on it in 2018.
As a 2nd gen owner who joined this forum to see what other owners are dealing with and get advice or share my own experiences with the big problem I see is no one on here talks about 2nd gen trucks or problems, they are all 2015 or newer mostly, hemi problems or "screen" problems. I don't have that stuff in my truck. One of the reasons I bought the truck besides I always wanted the body style is it's new enough to still get parts and upgrades easily, and old enough to not need a degree in Automotive Engineering to work on the the damn thing. But yeah, maybe your right, just are not a lot of them that haven't rusted away, it's a constant battle in Indiana to keep the rust back. Mopars rust here. Maybe the 2nd gens will come out of the shadows and post more on here. I have been doing upgrades and replacements and posting some of them, but they probably just are not relevant to the newer models. Just the same, love my truck and won't be trading it in, I spend what I need to keep the classic on the road and looking presentable.
