I have a 2011 ram 2500 st and I hauled my trailer about 6hrs to camp, then on the way home yesterday the trans would not shift into 5th.
Rpms on meter were really doing funny indication. I limped home but pretty sure I could only get 4gear and was at 2750-3000rpms the whole haul back.
Also, when I would come to low speeds and a stop, randomly my truck was telling me the trailer brake wasn't connected. It did that 3 times.
Any info would be great

I would bet a wooden nickle your solenoid pack and/or valve body are bad. If you don't have an OBD reader, go to AutoZone and have them get the trouble codes.

When you’re towing you should always have the transmission temperature gauge on to verify your transmission isn’t overheating.
If I had to guess, the truck threw itself into limp mode to not damage anything.
Just a thought

Sounds like it's time to inspect the trailer brakes, if one of the magnets or wiring is damaged or failing this could cause the trailer brake disconnect.
