The oil cap is not the owners manual.
You have the wrong owners manual then,as they never called for 0W-20 in the 18's,they didn't start calling for 0W-20 until 2022. And no being in Canada didn't change the oil designation,Canuck trucks called for 5W-20 in 2018 too

Thicker oil usually give better oil pressure at idle. IME. However I Believe the vvt mds may have issues with to heavy of an oil. So the folks on here that have up’d the oil to whatever -30 or -40 & not had issues with vvt or mds. Are correct in doing so. Because you’ll have better pressure at idle. Which from my understanding is most of the cam eating issue. (Idling a lot).& neglect . I have 04. 5.7. 414k on truck 314k on engine . Mfg says 15-40 same as the Cummins . So I run 15-40 or 20-50.(in summer) se tx. Also I’ve done the trans fluid 6-7 qts both filters every 50k. Got 300k from the 545rfe. Before Clutch’s were gone. The performance rear end builder I used said 30-40k on rear diff fluid. And I do the diff between 30-50k. Had 200k on rear diff. Before the lsd clutch’s went. I drive it like I stole it. But I maintain it well. Also if you live in the Hill’s you should probably change the fluids (oil, trans, diff.)Sooner than later.

In my 2018 Hemi RAM says 0W20 so it is 0W20.
What part of Canada are you in. Ramffml posted up the correct owners manual for your truck,as you've been reading the wrong manual.
Read the note at the bottom, you can also use 5W-30 if you wanted.

Sure, thanks for the suggestion. BTW where I live starting the engine at dusk in winter at -40° is usual. I say dusk but it reminds me that the sun only rise at 10AM...
Little tidbit for you,i'm in Alberta myself, lol
Hopefully you read Ramffml's post and you've realized you've been reading the wrong owners manual. You should also get your eyes checked,as your oil cap would of told you, your truck should have 5W-20,lol

Are you cold climate boys idling your truck for a few minutes at -40c? I idle for 5min (really the only time I idle) at those frigid temps. I idle mainly because the windows are frost and I'm out scrapping and clearing snow/ice.

I do maybe 5 minutes on really cold days.

Mostly so my defrost (when I remember to turn it up before I go in for the night...lol) can warm up the glass for me.

Also, so my electric power steering fluid flows better and it's not so stiff when I'm backing out my driveway on a cold Canuck morning... ;)

I have used Amsoil since I bought my 08 Ram Big Horn 5.7 used over 5 years ago. I have no idea what oil or how many miles it had since the last change, but would tick 2-3 times on start up, then stop the noise. I put in the Amsoil 5-20 and has been silent ever since. I did change to 5-30 once, still using Amsoil, and didn't notice any real difference except when using my scan tool to diagnose my dirty EGR, it stated "wrong viscosity". Never had a vehicle that knew what weight of oil to use before.

I never see those temps fortunately! Most winter days for me are about -18 to 0-ish, some days in Feb spike to -25 if they're really really "bad".

I remote start often during the winter, but it's 5 mins max. Gotta preheat that butt warmer and the steering wheel and defrost everything.

I've gone through 4 winters so far and I'm still at < 100 idle hours for 95,000 kms driven so that's not too bad.

I feel for those Alberta and Winterpeg folks though I suspect it's just a different type of cold, where I live I get the "deep sink into your bones" type of cold from the moisture in the air, farther north even in Ontario it's colder on the thermometer but dryer and easier to handle if your skin is covered of course.

Ive had it idles for hours while off-roading at -50. At those temps its an unwritten rule, you dont shut off engines in the bush. But my trucks tuned so I have awesome oil pressure at idle !

Ever since my wife shattered her leg a couple years ago,the cold bothers her,so our 300 will sit on the driveway idling for a 1/2 hour or more on cold days so it's warm enough for her to drive with out her leg killing her.But i have the idle set at 750 rpm in it. Even on a hot day in the summer it hot idles at 51/52 psi.

Human health beats vehicle perfection any day, @Wild one

Wish I'd known more about tuners before a charged into my truck guts. I hadn't kept up to date on this stuff.

I changed to 5w-30 after my first trip while towing. I saw some high oil temps that I didn't like. I believe that it kept oil temps a bit lower. with 5w-30. I have since started using lubeguard as well. The two of those and a higher idle has been the theoretical consensus of how to prevent hemi tick.

DILLIGAF this is a rule of thumb in our northern climate. In cold weather I do not drive my truck until the engine get below 1000 RPM, at least. Few minutes running before driving is best.
