I’ve got a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9L engine. I’m hearing a strange ticking/clicking noise coming from under the hood, and I just can’t seem to figure out what’s causing it.
The engine is pretty much new — both the block and heads are new, all internal components are new as well, and the engine was recently replaced. The only thing I’m currently suspecting is the exhaust manifold, but I’m not 100% sure.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could it be something else I’m overlooking? I’d appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks in advance!

A mechanic’s stethoscope can help to pin point the noise. A dowel rod , or thin long stick , or even a long screwdriver can be substituted.
Start touching one end to where you think the noise is and the other to your ear . Keep searching until the sound gets louder.
I would start at the exhaust manifolds, but it may be anything, so don’t get tunnel vision.
