Just wanted to share what’s been going on with my 2025 RAM 1500 Warlock Crew Cab 4x4 with the Hurricane 3.0L SO. I picked it up on June 30, 2025 and within two days and less than 900 miles on the truck, it was already in the shop—and now needs a full engine replacement.

Here’s how it went down:
  • 6/30 – Bought the truck in NC. During the test drive, I noticed a little smoke from the engine area, but was told it was normal because of “new brakes” or just factory fluids burning off.
  • 7/1–7/2 – Drove it under 900 miles. Still saw smoke after every drive and noticed a burning oil smell.
  • 7/2 – On a trip to NJ, I noticed a puddle of oil under the truck. Took it to a RAM dealer in NJ.
  • 7/3 – Dealer found an internal oil leak but couldn’t immediately locate the source.
  • 7/11 – NJ dealer confirmed the entire engine has to be replaced due to warped internal parts. I was also told the truck I was driving was a a safety risk because of the risk of engine failure or fire.
The truck has been undrivable since July 2, and the dealer says it could be several weeks before it’s fixed. I’ve contacted Stellantis/RAM and so far have only have recieved boilerplate responses and nothing helpful.

I get that things happen, but this feels extreme for a brand-new truck I barely even got to drive. I’m not sure I want the truck back after an engine replacement this early. On top of everything else, the truck is stuck at a dealer 11 hours away from me.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Were you able to get a replacement or buyback, or were you just stuck with the repair?

Appreciate any advice or shared experiences. Just trying to figure out how others have handled a situation like this.

Welcome to the forum.

I truly hope you get this resolved quickly. These are really good trucks.

They have it. They’ll fix it. Eventually.

Open up your paperwork you got from the finance department. Read carefully through the fine print. Depending on what extras you purchased while they rushed through the paperwork, you may be able to get them to cover truck payments while the truck is in the shop for extended periods of time. You might also have a return period where they take back the truck.

Also, call them every day. Cordially ask them for status updates. Be THAT annoying customer.

I went through this with a 6.4L Big Horn about 4 months after I purchased it. It had a few more miles that what you have but it was essentially still new. The engine was built with undersized wrist pins. The piston slap got louder and louder and louder. Just before I took it to the dealer for diagnostics a TSB was issued. My truck fell within the TSB's defined production dates and VIN range.

It took about 3 weeks for an engine to be allocated and shipped to my dealer. It didn't take long for the swap to occur, and the dealer communicated with me at every step of the process.

I too had thoughts of not wanting the truck back, fearing that there would be more catastrophic failures. I was wrong...it was a great truck until it's premature demise.

Good luck!

You can research online the vehicle “lemon law” for your state, and if you qualify, contact an attorney and begin the process.

The vehicle will never be right. Who ever told you the smoke during the test drive was normal was lying to you.

My 2022 Warlock has had nothing but problems. Currently in the shop and needs a new engine or atleast major fixes.
