I know I saw a thread on this somewhere, but now I can't seem to find it. How are you tinting the tails now? Are they being cracked open and somehow painted from the inside? Down here it seems we can't get away with having them painted from the outside (as in the old VHT treatment). Just curious how are doing the new retro service.

The actual lens is painted. They aren't popped open. Although I'm sure you could probably pop them and paint them.

Yeah if it's just the lens painted that won't put me in any better situation. Thanks man.

Popping them and painting them would get rid of the red tint on them. The outside is painted.

Kinda figured that was the case. But JJ likes to crack open things...thought maybe he found a good way to do it from the inside.

How would popping them and painting them get rid of the red? If you did the same thing as headlights you could make them darker. You don't have to paint the lens.

man I am not about to start crackin' tails. LOL

Painting the insides would probably not net anything better, as the lens isn't clear.

Just doing a paint job on the outside. We are going to use automotive paint and clear - not knocking VHT..........but..........well, it just isn't the same.

I snagged a set of used OEM tails the other day, mentioned that I was going to use them for cores..........well I flat out sold that set today (tinted) and then sold another set of tinted tails (my cores) - with the 3rd break light. Didn't know there was that much demand for them. Kinda thought most were VHT'n 'em.

BUT, for those that want an awesome set done up with some quality automotive paints and clear - let me know! :D

That's cool. I did suck at my first attempt with VHT but since it got taken off like a month later it didn't much matter anyway. The law here is that nothing can be on the lens....fml

$100 on tails / $45 on the 3rd, $35 if done with the tails. I'll get with you on the third if I need it anytime here. ;)

Code? No......thats the dude's name. I stopped painting back in April. Got tired of it, and frankly I was getting WAY too busy to do it myself. I enjoyed painting at first, but I'd rather be ripping into lights. :D So, I was talking with the guy that I was buying my paint from (at the local auto paint store) and found that he has 15 years of experience as a painter, we talked $$ and well, the rest is history. I gave him set number 40 tonight (holy ****........40 painted sets since April!!).

Best part - my customers get a much better product, and it frees me up to do more retrofits. I was spending more time painting that retro'ing........fugget that!! :D

My truck has automotive paint mixed with clear. And it comes through really well day and night. With how dark it is.
