Tire size help

Hello everyone, looking for tire help.

2012 Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4
Original tires 265/70-17

The truck is all stock, only 60k but Michelins are starting to dry rot and I pull a big camper, so time to replace.

I want a bigger tire and was looking for help with what will fit on stock rims.

Anyone have tire sizes/brands that will work without rubbing?

Need all season prefer low noise street/highway tire. Truck really isn't off road at all.

My '03 1500 came with 265/70-17 as well and I'll upgrade to 285/70-17 as soon as my tires need to be replaced. You'll be fine with that size on your stock rims.

Regarding tires, I recommend Nitto. Their Terra- or Exo Grappler should serve you well.

285 70 17 but make sure you get e rated tires.

Agree about looking at the load ratings of the various tires. Sounds like tow capacity is your main priority.

If you don't know, here is how to figure out tire math:

265/70/17

Width = 265 / 25.4 = 10.43"
Height = 265 x 0.70 = 185.50 x 2 = 371 / 25.4 = 14.606 + 17" rim = 31.606"

Items bolded above are what you change when doing the math.

Keep in mind, tire sizes are NOMINAL meaning although Brands X, Y & Z sell you a 265/70/17 and mathematically they should work out to 31.606" x 10.43", the reality is Brand X may offer 32"x10.5" and Brand Y may offer 31.5"x10.2" and Brand Z may be 32"x11".

The only way to know the ACTUAL dimensions is to visit the manufacturer's website. This is why some people will rub with the same size while someone else will not.

Generally speaking if you are close to stock you will be okay or only require minimal trimming, etc.
