For those of you who have switched from stock tires to an all-terrain design, what kind of gas mileage reduction do you suffer? I am up in North Idaho and could use a good performing winter tire but I am afraid of horror stories I've heard of 2-4 mpg reduction. I won't be changing tire size, just replacing the crappy OEM tires (29k miles and they are nearly worn out) with something that hopefully has more winter bite without excessive noise or fuel penalty.

Thanks in advance for replies.

I went to the falken Wildpeak and still get 24+ during the summer months. Winter blend drops it to 21/22 if I stay on the highway. I have a 1500 EcoDiesel.

I'm a little over 60k miles on this set and 3/32 tread left.

I went from the crappy GY's to Michelin LTX A2's and lost about 2 mpg. But I also leveled the truck at the same time, so the loss could be a result of both changes.

I know my old truck was a 3rd Gen and this is a 4th Gen thread but I don’t think my mileage suffered hardly at all when I ditched the factory Goodyear’s to the Cooper Discoverer AT/3’s. Can’t really speak much for my new 18 but these Michelin Defender LTX’s seem to roll rather easily.

I've got a 2018 crew cab with Hemi. I replaced the OEM tires at roughly 9,000 miles. I bought BFG KO2's in the stock size. Mine are the LT, rather than passenger, rated tire, so they're heavy. I lost 1-2 MPG. IMHO, the MPG drop was worth the performance upgrade. I live in Salt Lake City. We ski and camp in the mountains a lot. The KO2's are significantly better towing and in the snow. The OEM tires are garbage! I kept getting flats on dirt roads and didn't trust them any longer.

Those BFG’s are good tires but they rode way too rough for my liking. As the above poster said, they are a light truck, 8 ply tire compared to your 4 ply passenger rated tires, that are 15 pounds per tire heavier than those Goodyear’s. They don’t ride too terribly bad when you run them at 39psi but the ones I had were awfully spongy and sloppy at that pressure. Stopping, accelerating and cornering increased tremendously when I raised the pressure to the BFG recommended 55psi but then they had no give at all after that. Felt like I was driving on airless heavy duty forklift tires after that.

If you’re driving on the type of roads that would eat those stock tires for lunch, or if you were pulling trailers that you probably shouldn’t really be pulling with your little halfton, I’d say go for it. But your mileage and ride comfort will go down the gutter. At least it did with mine, anyways. And that was even with 3:92 gears and air suspension.

I put Cooper ATPs on and after driving on snow packed roads with my 2wd 1500 wearing 275/60/20 I am very happy with these tires. These are as quiet as the stock SR-As and did not hurt mpg while giving impressive traction on icy roads.

If you don't want any MPG loss, keep the size stock, and keep the tire as light as possible, all season HT pattern
Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season comes in 275/60/20 and only weights 40lbs
Cooper Evolution H/T also in 275/60/20 weights 42lbs, little cheaper than the Pirellis

PULLYA: Was thinking of going to LTX or Coopers. Want a lil more tire but not need mudders......
Turkey, I went with the LTX on my 2014 3500 best tire I have ever had on a truck. I don't haul much, the truck is on the road much more than ever in the dirt. I feel like the LTX could handle some light towing, but don't have facts to back that up. The Firestone tires (OEM) were going fast at 25000 while the LTX looked great at 21,000. I can not tell you more because I traded the truck in for the 2500. I will buy the LTX again.

I went to a larger 10ply 33" tire that weighs 17lbs more than stock each.
Highway mileage only dropped about 2 mpgs but city mileage lost about 5 mpgs.
Of course, some of this could be caused by the Flowmaster Outlaw I installed at the same time.
Now I'm on the skinny pedal a lot more cause it sounds bad ass...

Upsized to 35x12.5/20 BFG KO2. Leveled and grill guard installed. Lost about 1mpg city. Get about 17 city 21 highway with the Hemi.

2015 1500 Hemi 4x4. Went from stock Goodyears to stock size Wildpeaks. Lost about 1½ - 2 mpg all around. I'm not thrilled about it but it's the price I pay for peace of mind when its going to snow.

Too soon to tell exactly for me but looks like the same for me as well with the new stock sized AT3W's.

Worth it for a true truck tire that can handle harsh weather and mild off road.....I would get stuck in grass and need 4x4 with the OE's!

I just swapped out oem SRAs to Michelin Defender LTX, after 42k miles. Man what a difference!! Very smooth ride now and feels oh so secure to the road
My truck is mostly a pavement prince so dont need or wamt knobby trail tires.

Wow, even over the stock SRA’s? I thought those rode fairly well, at least when they were brand new anyways. I guess the only reason I raved so much about my Defenders was because I went to them after them hard-as-a-rock BFG’s. Anything’s better than them as far as ride. Lol.
