I have a 2012 Ram w/ 5.7 180,000 miles. It’s showing all the signs of a failed lifter on cylinder 5. I’m planning the replace the Lifters and cam with oem parts and the oil pump with Melling 10452hv. What I’m trying to decide is, does it make more sense to pull the engine to preform the task or, keep it in place and disconnect the front diff? And remove the cross brace? This is my first time tackling a project this in depth on a truck. Motorcycle well that’s a different story.

Most of us do it in the truck but it is easier if you pull it ofc. You do not need to remove the oil pan to change the pump simply drop the front of the pan down and remove the pickup tube bolt bend the pickup tube down a bit that will give plenty of room to pull the oil pump just be careful to not screw up the oil pan gasket.
