Thanks to all who helped and offered tips and advice to get my truck going again. Today started with installing a fuel pump in my truck, that went well. We used the bed lifting method and it wasn’t so bad. It took longer to get that stupid plastic ring to thread right than it did to raise the bed. After the install I started the truck and it did run and sound better but still something wasn’t right. I got to checking the plug wires and cylinder #4 wasn’t firing, I checked the plug and it was fouled ( the truck had old fuel before and it was pretty much complete varnish ) so I changed the plug and checked the firing order. I was so glad to see #4 and #6 were in the wrong place and needed to be swapped. After that the truck purred like a kitten, I was so glad. It’s been months of working on and off in the heat to get this thing going and I finally did it. I know, I should have checked all this before but when I installed the new cap, rotor, and wires I followed what was on the truck when I got it. I guess the previous owner mixed them up before i purchased it from him. All should be good now, I removed all of that bad gas before adding fresh gasoline. I’m gonna change the oil tomorrow because I’m not sure if some made it to the crankcase with all the misfiring going on. The oil does smell like old gas. Lots of lessons learned on this one and I’m glad my son was around to learn along with me.
