Hey guys

I have a Ram 1500 Long horn with a 5.7 Hemi.

Recently the dealer did a flash to the transmission per a recall.

Since then my fuel economy has gone down hill.

I recently did a 15hr trip towing a 20’ camper. My mpg was averaging 8.3mpg. The truck never left 6 gear. In tow/haul mode or without. No changes.

Previous to the new flash when I did this same trip I averaged 12.2mpg and 7th gear was the best I could get.

Anyone else have this same issue?

I had mine refreshed also and I can get it in 7th on flat road. As for the mileage I'm about 8 also but i pull a 9k# TV so i expected low mileage. Do you have the 3.92 gear? If you have a lower gear like 3.23 that might be the reason

Since your transmission was flashed, it's probably still going through the learning process. Similar complaints popped up on an EcoD forum after a trans update(Hemi uses the same trans), several reported fuel economy came back after a while.
Fuel economy while towing is more influenced by wind load than actual weight. Towing the same 24' (3K lbs) in calm to no wind I'll get close 16-17 mpg, once the wind kicks up it will struggle to get 12mpg. When I tow my boat(also 3K lbs), I get about 20. I also tow a 28' (fully loaded 8K lbs) and get in the 14-15mpg range. Granted this is with a 3.92 EcoD, so subtract probably 6-8 mpg off those values for the Hemi.
