I know this video below is for GM's two engines, but I thought it was a great demonstration of turbo vs NA towing and why my hemi isn't going anywhere.

For those not that familiar with GM's lineup, the 2.7 is a 4 cylinder meant to replace their old v6, which it does really well. But the power numbers on paper are quite close to the 5.3; more torque, but less hp, so it's a great comparison vs their 5.3.

Anyway, the 2.7 is clearly the loser in this comparison, at the end of the 2.7 test it couldn't even drop down below 3000 rpms anymore, like it was too hot and down on power or something. It was wrung to death.

He has a lot more videos as well towing the same load/trailer/loop with different trucks. That 5.0 coyote is no joke either, the specs put it above the 5.7 and in real world testing it surpasses the hemi in acceleration and mpg while towing by a fair margin. No surprise, the 5.0 is a modern design and was updated like 3 times in the same period that the 5.7 has had no updates and is really old at this point, but anyway, it works great for me and my needs and will stick around as long as it doesn't give me grief.

If you like towing reviews, I highly recommend his channel. In case you're wondering, he's a huge Ram guy, loves Cummins and drives a power wagon so you don't have to worry about him hating on Ram due to brand bias. I've found his reviews to be extremely neutral when it comes to brand.

I know GM had a lot of issues with the 5.3 on the previous model truck. Ford also had some pretty bad issues with the 3.5 Ecoboost and the 5.0 on its previous model year. I know they are trying to offer a better fuel efficient truck with the 2.7, but They could have done what ford did and designed something like the ecoboost v6.
