2010 Big Horn - 2wd 200k miles. The Traction control light will usually blink in the morning or after the truck has been sitting for a couple of hours. after i've driven it for a minute or two I lose the throttle, and I can go roughly 30 mph. This only seems to happen when it's going from 2-3 gears, so at slower speeds. Immediately checked the wheel speed sensors and found a bad caliper (AH HA)...nope. I replaced bearings, speed sensors, calipers, rotors, and pads on the front. I have a live data recording of the speed sensors, and all are working as they should. If it starts to show this problem, I can turn off the traction control, and all is well even Mid-hiccup. I've seen where people have issues with the steering angle sensor, and I can record data on that, but I'm not sure if I would be able to know if that is a good or bad graph. It changes.?. It's not throwing any codes that I can see. I'm not one to break out the parts canon, but with 200k miles, if something looks off, it's getting replaced (thus the front bearings). Without the traction control system turned on, the truck performs as it should. I can even recreate the problem when I leave the house for work by taking a certain route. Go, guys... let's see what you got.
Also, I changed the transmission fluid and filters about a year ago. Went to a full synthetic. I initially thought that might be an issue, but as I said, with the traction control turned off, it runs fine

First thing that comes to mind is your battery. Funky things happen when battery is not 100%. Then you can check wheel speed sensors and alignment for starters .

You didn’t say where you got got speed sensors from. If you used other than OE, the sensors could have been bad right out of the box.

Battery is less than a year old, good grounds new alternator. Voltage out of the alternator is 13.6. I know new doesnt mean good but checked all that out. New wheel bearings came with wheel speed sensors. Checked all speed sensors with code reader that shows live data. all sensors performed well. Today i found that my throttle position is giving me some odd readings. Havent looked at all the data but i'll post an update as soon as i can

Rotors, pads, and calipers should not have any affect on the ABS system, in regards to fault lights or codes. A bad wheel bearing could cause issues since it could let the tone ring wobble and loose contact with the sensor, or grind down the sensor. Wheel speed sensors are not the only thing that can cause an ABS fault.

The RF caliper was blown out...thus the replacement.

First have the battery load tested. I just went through all kinds of weird Issues because an 11 month old Walmart battery went bad. Had throttle control warnings with truck going into limp mode, high and low ref circuit errors, etc.

Also had a 3 way coolant valve fail and ABS module is failing. I think battery failure contributed to these parts failing.

How to Diagnose and Reset Limp Mode

  1. Scan for Codes: Use an OBD-II scanner to check for error codes. This will help identify the specific issue causing limp mode.
  2. Disconnect the Battery: Temporarily disconnecting the battery can reset the vehicle's computer and may clear limp mode. However, this does not fix the underlying problem.
  3. Check Fluid Levels: Ensure that transmission fluid and engine oil levels are adequate, as low levels can trigger limp mode.
  4. Inspect Components: Look for any visible damage or wear in the transmission and engine components.

I have a small fleet of trucks. On one GM 2500 I had a Hokey Pokey gas station put in a BS globally sourced front wheel bearing. I always insist on OEM but he was really pushing his global BS. Long story short, these wheel bearings kept triggering the ABS light. After many resets and even a replacement wheel bearing or two, the shop was trying to tell me it was computer related and wanted me to approve further electrical diagnosis. I wouldn’t. I insisted on an OEM replacement. He didn’t see it my way and wouldn’t budge. Neither did I. When I had a down day, I parked my truck up to his middle bay and put the keys in my pocket. I told him I wasn’t leaving till he swapped it out for OEM. I wasn’t moving unless the police told me too. I sat there 4-5 hours while he sourced the correct part and I was on my way. Never had a light come on again. Never went back to that shop and he lost a whole lot of business. Aftermarket doesn’t always play nice with our electronics.
