Quick question. Does anyone know what type of traction control system is used in these trucks ?

Went sideways a couple of times today in the wet while taking turns at a very conservative speed. I don't recall seeing any lights blinker on dash or feel the vehicle attempt to pulsate the back brakes on a certain hub to limit output .
Fortunately for me I've used vehicles in the past with no electronic nannies hence why I controlled it from going down a ditch LOL. Albeit over corrected slightly once.

I see my traction control lights and feel the loss of power when pulling from a start on wet pavement. I did have a pretty scary hydroplaning event a few months ago. Was going ~60mph in steady rain, felt the rear end wagging, didn't see any traction control action. Just slowed it down and took it easy for the rest of the drive.

Yes, no light and no sensation that the electrical nanny engaged. On my previous rides, it felt almost as if the vehicle was being pulled/ held back and rotating wheels or wheel would slow down suddenly, and that would be for example of taking a sharp fast u turn or bend. Today I took a turn at a stop light and it lost traction with no feeling of anything assisting.

Gotta love this rain we are having. If you have 4WD, turn on 4WD Auto. No more slipping then.

A few months ago, that's about the last time we had any rain. The roads were slick yesterday all the oil on them with that rain. I've only had the traction control come on once.

Not sure what happened here but I bet they wish they had traction control this morning. f1c21bea7eb0dba88197300869f8da65.jpg

I would think that is description of when stability control should kick in, not traction control.

I don't think I get much stability control in 2wd. I can feel the effect and disable it in 4x4 high, but some of that could be how I was testing.

There is only so much it can do with brakes and the power output from two wheels.

The stability control system in the models with 4auto is significantly more advanced and effective in my experience.

Oh so a light does exist? I need to refer to user manual.

Well, I dunno. I ain't complaining as the truck feels like an old school vehicle in slippery conditions. I would have just thought it would have done something when the back end lost traction. Like pulsating the abs or whatever modern vehicles do. LOL.

Yes - it flashes at you when it's on... The best way to fix the tire spinning is toss those POS cheap OEM's and get a good set. I couldn't keep from spinning with OEM tires on mine until I got good tires.

I will say, after driving GM vehicles for many years, the Ram traction control/stability control (whatever) is not as "good" as GMs. If my GM trucks even thought about getting squirrely, the TC would kick in and reign in the truck. With my Ram, I can get sideways and fishtail and nothing. TBH, I don't think I've seen it kick in once. As a previous user mentioned, I've driven trucks all my life, so I know how to control it and I usually end up just having a little fun with it (did I say that out loud).

Mine works very well - so well that it ****** me off sometimes.

Well I'm glad I heard this. Bearing in mind I ain't had a truck before. Like I mentioned similar to yourself TC doesn't do anything or appear to.Worth noting mines a 4x2.

Mines the same way. I turn traction control off and stability control kick in and make it no fun. Mine pulls power And brakes pulse all the time in the rain when I have the hemi foot going on.

I'll throw in my thoughts on this as well. Most traction control units are absolute crap. I had a Ford Edge AWD Limited and I could make the tires spin in slippery conditions.. eventually the TC would pop on. We have a Chev, same thing. In most vehicles the TC seems to be that one coworker everyone hates. Something is happening and everyone is involved.. a few moments later he's like, "Oh, should I be helping?", then finally comes over. About the only car I've had that had decent TC on it was my 2003 BMW Z4. That thing kicked on in a flash, honestly kinda annoyed me. :p

But yeah, with my 2011 QC 1500 4wd I can get the tires to spin in wet conditions with mild throttle before the TC wakes up.
