Transmission Issue

I own a 95 1500 4x4 with a 5.2. Today in stop and go traffic I noticed the truck acting funny. When I was coming to a stop I could feel what felt like a clunking, and when traffic started to move, I noticed the truck wouldn't move as I stepped on the gas. After a few seconds it felt like something released and the truck would lurch forward. This is my first Dodge, so I am a little new to the issues they have. Do you think the transmission is bad ? I'm going to replace filter and fluid. Is there any other things I should look for ?

The truck has 108,000 miles on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the fluid level?
Does it look brown or smell burnt?
Any recent work done?
