Transmission Problems

Hey guys, I have a 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 with 6spd automatic trans. About 2 weeks ago I was driving down the highway and the truck got stuck in 5th gear. No CEL or trans light. Pulled over restarted the truck and it seemed to cure the problem. A couple days later I started noticing some hard shifting. On Friday night the truck got stuck in 5th again (pulled over and restarted the truck again). Started getting hard banging shifts from 1st to 2nd, tranny light came on. Dealer said they can’t get to it until June 13th, but I’m just trying to get some info on what I might be up against. The truck has 50k and is still under warranty. Any input is much appreciated. Sounds like a classic bad solenoid pack. Do you know what codes it threw?

Don’t know the codes. Haven’t bothered having anyone else look at it since it’s under warranty and unfortunately have to wait for the dealer. What does a “bad solenoid pack” translate to?

Its actually a pretty easy fix, it sits on top of the valve body and just unbolts. Hardest part is removing the valve body and taking an ATF bath. Very common on the RFE transmissions, although 50k is kinda early.

Could also be a speed sensor or wiring problem. Thankfully you're still under warranty if its anything like that...
