Hey guys, I'm rebuilding my 5.7 hemi in my 2012 1500 with a 65rfe. From the research I've done, it's a terrible trans and won't handle the power I'll be pushing (no more than 550). I need a 6 speed 4x4 and just can't seem to find a suitable option. Can yall help layout some options or educate me further?

Fair enough. And also when I would look up 65rfe upgrades, it brought up a 68rfe rebuild kit. I couldn't find anything that specifically said I can use it to rebuild my 65 unless yall have some insight

Check out FrostBiteRam on YouTube , lots of good info on trans and making power with a 5.7.

Despite that I think the RFE's are fundamentally more good than bad I don't think I've ever heard of anyone successfully building one for serious power. Might be less work in the long run to swap in a 518 or a 4l80 standalone.

Is it possible to use a 68rfe rebuild kit for the 65rfe? I'm not going to making insane power, nothing over 550 for now. I just can't find anything specifically says I can or cant

I found that the 66rfe has the same case so it will bolt up, but my bigger worry is electrical. Would I need a new computer and tuning, one or the other??

66rfe uses a bigger output shaft. I think the 65rfe tail will swap out not sure though. Tuning I think I remember being told can be solved with HP tuners for the different ratios.
