I had two working keys but one stopped working I believe it needs to be reprogrammed. Is there any way for me to reprogram it myself with only one working key? My truck is a 2002 ram crew cab.

No. Is it a SKIM (chipped) key or are you referring to the FOB?

Fairly certain that the chip keys that the '02s came with require two working keys to program a 3rd OR a trip to a locksmith or dealer. That's hpw my 2001 with them was.

Correct...IF it actually has chipped keys. They weren't all that common then (my 03 doesn't have). Trying to ascertain if he means key or key fob. Chipped keys (especially that vintage) generally don't just go bad.

Yeah, my 01' Dakota and my wife's '02 Jeep had both chipped keys and a keyfob for lock/unlock/panic, but they were both high trim levels. Not sure about the fobs, I never tried to add one to either of them. I did have to replace the security module on the Dakota once, but the dealer did it and I kept the same keys & keyfobs. My parents have a '02 Jeep CG that they use for a beater these days and they were able to have a local locksmith do an extra key last year when they only had one.

It is a chipped key. This was actually the spare that I use now the other one is black with the ram logo. It failed and would only start just to die a half second later. Switched keys been running fine every since with spare. I think it needs to be to reprogrammed I don't know why it would fail all of a sudden but I did have to jump start my truck after leaving the dome light on thought that was a possibility

It came with one black one grey how would it run both keys if only one was chipped. I used the black key for months. I am certain they are both chipped

Either you don't actually have SKIM or the gray key was in close enough proximity for the black key to work. Regardless, facts are facts; gray = chipped, black = not chipped.

Well I'm not saying your wrong but I am not convinced the other key was never around it was either one or the other and it makes no since if it was in closeclose proximity or not. I think this going wrong direction just wanted to know if anyone knew how to program with one working key.

That questions was answered in the second post, in bold:

No. Is it a SKIM (chipped) key or are you referring to the FOB?

Just an example, scroll down a little, under #2: http://www.northlandlocksmith.com/moparchips/
It doesn't matter if you are convinced or not lol. I have actually programmed SKIM and SKIM keys across multiple Mopar vehicles. You should run your VIN to see if your truck was ever actually equipped with it. It will have "Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System" listed on the build sheet. If you do actually have SKIM and that black key was able to run the vehicle at all without locking the PCM then there is an underlying malfunction.

This is a screenshot of .y vehicle equipment pulled right off the Mopar website. So so it does have the security system and I'm only going to assume that they are both transponder keys otherwise the first one would not have been working for the seven or eight months that I've been driving with it now I just need to figure out how to get it reprogrammed or replaced.
Thanks for the help the mopar website is a nice resource

Dealer or locksmith who has the necessary software, unless you know someone with DRBIII or DRBIII emulator software. If you find yourself in MD I'll do it for beer or a small donation (voluntary of course) to the speed parts fund lol.
