Hey folks,

Just wanted to get some opinions on the value of an inherited truck as it has been tough to find comparable ones for sale and I am not sure the KBB value is accurate. The truck is a 1996 Ram 3500 5.9l turbo diesel Laramie SLT with dual rear wheels. It is a 4X4 with manual 5-spd and flat bed with tow package and goose neck hitch. The truck is in excellent condition with only 27,000 very easy miles.

KBB gives a value of $9,609 but does not account for the flat bed or goose neck hitch setup. Looking forward to hearing what you guys would value this truck at or think it would sale for!

That is a good find. Are you looking to sell or buy? If buying from a dealer the extras won't add any additional value. If buying from a individual, price can be set at whatever price. I'd say $15000 would be a reasonable asking price if shown reasonable proof of the easy miles. If i personally was looking at the truck and someone told me that it had "easy miles" with a flatbed and gooseneck I'd have to call bs. But easy miles to me might be different from others.

Thanks for the reply. The truck has been kept under cover so there are no rust or paint issues and no interior issues. It is pretty much pristine and all maintenance (what little there was with only 27,000 miles) was completed by the dealer. The truck was actually my wife's grandfathers who recently past away. He used it on his farm to haul hay wagons and an equipment trailer. He was very disciplined and meticulous about caring for his equipment. It now belongs to my wife's grandmother and I wanted to know what would be a fair price to give her for it since she can't use it and wants us to buy it to keep it around since he loved it so much.

I'd offer $9000. She may take less because it's family.

Now what?

Offered her 11k for it and she accepted. She had an offer of 18k on it. Now I need ideas of how to put it to use and earn its keep?

Those old cummins 24V were workhorses. It will handle anything you want it to...and if you ever decided to sell it, you would have a long line of offers pretty close to the $18k that you saw. You literally have a diamond in the rough! Congrats!
