Dang-it! I lost one of my fobik keys a couple years ago. I didn't want to pay local dealer prices, (quoted close to 3 hundred for replacement). So I saw videos on using scanners to program cheap keys bought on Amazon. I bought an X-tool D8S and their FCA SGW 12+8 Bypass Connecter Cable. I pulled out the radio and hidden behind are the bypass cables/module. Unhooked the module and hooked up my byapass setup to my xtool scanner. Long story short put my last good fobik in ignition an "BOOM", it would not start vehicle, getting flickering dash lights. The fobik intermittently will work to unlock doors but that's about it. It's been 3 days and have been playing with the scantool. At first it would not recognize/auto identify my truck. It is finally doing it but that's as far as I've gotten. Having it toed to dealer my last resort, I'm retired now and stubbornly trying to fix this. Any suggestions appreciated.

Wow! After fussing with the truck off and on for a week just found out the battery is dead. Too dead to start the vehicle. And when dead the scanner was not communicating with any of the modules..What are the chances of that happening the minute I hooked up a sgw bypass cables and the new scanner? Seemed too much of a coincidence. I've had the noco charge maintainer hooked up to it all week thinking I was keeping it charged. I was about to give up and have it towed to a mechanic and a thought popped into my mind. Trade out the battery for wife's sonata battery and vooom! Started right up.
Will get new battery tomorrow, recommendations appreciated, I'm thinking of going stock but that will probably come at a premium.

AGM battery! Costco interstate would be first choice. Walmart sells the everstart AGM for our trucks for about $180 that’s what I have in my truck. AGM performs better in cold weather and drain intervals ect... Not sure if it will last longer than a traditional lead acid but for the life of an AGM it will give a better performance.

Glad it was something simple, it’s often easy to over look a battery especially when its hooked up to a battery tender.

Were you able to successfully program the other FOB?

Ouch! Hate it when crazy coincidences happen like that!

There was kind of a two-pronged coincidence when my tk's battery up and died. Worked one minute, died the next. Actually quite a few forum members have shared stories when their batteries died. Glad you got to the bottom of it, w/o buying a new $1,500 computer. :waytogo:

I bought a Costco Interstate battery not long ago. It was considerably cheaper than buying from the Interstate store in fact. Good buy. The savings alone would have paid for a yr membership (almost).

A Lead Acid battery should last a long time in NH. That must be in the "Long Lifespan" zone I would think.

Totally agree! Lead acid vs AGM I don’t preach either one they are both great, if the cash is there I will buy an AGM but I know it’s not much of a difference. I tend to buy from Costco as well, they just didn’t have my battery in stock when I needed it so the ever start from Wally World was the solution.

Nah, no luck. I was able to pull the PIN number but when I plugged it in the scanner kept getting "Programming failed". I bought a couple of cheap fob keys from Amazon, no luck. Glad she running again though.

Thanks for the suggestions. The only thing near me is Walmart, so I upgraded to a larger battery, the Everlast AGM H8. More CCA, at least on paper.
