My 2015 Ram 1500 has the U11E9 code. I have limited mechanical knowledge and limited funds so I research try to fix things myself.

The shutters are open but do not move when I turn on the truck. I checked the wires from the connection of the Active Grille Shutter system and noticed that the white wire was slightly cut and had some greenish color there, hardly visible. So I though that the white wire might be the issue so I ordered the connector (pigtail?) from ebay through a link someone put on this forum on another U11E9 thread.

I just put the ebay connector on the truck and the shutters still do not close when I start the truck and the check engine light is still on. I did make sure to connect the wires as the previous original connector. My soldering is pretty bad. Another thing was that with the original connection, when I would connect the pigtail to the active grill shutter system, I would hear a slight motor sound. After I replaced the pigtail, I did not hear the motor sound when I plugged in the pigtail connector to the active grill shutter system.

I do not know what to do going forward. I do not know how to test the wires to see if a wire is broken somewhere. The youtube videos I found show someone using a multimeter and putting the probes on each end of the wire but I have no idea where the other ends of the wires are for the active grille shutter system.

I also don't know how to check if my Active Grille Shutter system is good or bad.

So I do not know what to do next to fix the issue.

I would appreciate any help.

My suggestion would be that if you have very limited troubleshooting skills (as indicated you don't know what to look for using a meter), I would encourage you to seek help from a compitant shop / individual that specializes in vehicle electrical systems. Have them check / test the AGS solenoid/motor operation and the ECU output with a scan tool.

Poking around willey nillie in electronics could wind up being very expensive.

Since you have that particular code, it refers to a loss of comm. The AGS is on a LIN Bus, one wire that communicates between the AGS and the PCM. It is the white/tan wire. Since you 'fixed' that wire, to no avail. I'd suggest that you go back several feet on that wire and cut out as much wire as you can, and have a friend use a crimp splice and heat shrink, or, you can try it. A heat gun, lighter, or a lit candle/match can produce enough heat to shrink the heat shrink.

I will look into tracing the white wire back further. I did twist the wires, solder sloppily and heat shrink with a heat gun when I replaced the pigtail.

Will not fixing the issue that leaves the shutter open all the time do any type of damage to the truck?

I completely removed my shutters and truck runs cooler at speed and towing. You can't delete the AGS motor as it will toss a code. Only down side of leaving like that, they may decide to close and not open. Not good...
