Hey gang. New poster here so forgive me if this has been asked but I couldn't find it.

After paying $1800 in plane tickets to take the kids back to see the parents this year I got to thinking... $1800 should buy be a nice rear entertainment system for the kids and I can drive next year...

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with the 430n(RHB?) media center... the one with the garmin navigation.

My question is this.

Rear Seat Video, DVD - 82211618AB | Mopar

I found that which seems like it would work. How expensive would that be to install? Has anyone done this before? Are there better alternatives for this head unit?

If you invest in a lockpic you can go with basically any aftermarket unit which will more than likely have more features, larger screen and reduced cost. May want to consider headrests with built in screens/DVD players. Could be more expensive (depending on model) but cleaner install, no cutting of headliner and won't have screen obstructing vision.

Do they make a lock pick for the 2012? I can't seem to find one.

You don't need a lockpick to install an aftermarket overhead DVD player. You can use a lockpick, and only add a monitor if you wish to use OE HU as the player. We had an 11" overhead DVD player in our previous Aspen (430). Get one with built-in FM modulator, and the sound will come through your speakers, or they can also use headphones. It was $550 installed. It matched perfect. Remember that it's a permanent modification. It has to stay with your truck, or there will be a hold in your headliner. Check out your local shops before spending $2k (installed) on the Mopar one.
