One of the first mods I did I my truck was to install a Volant CIA system w the ram air snorkel. It has a power core filtration filter, 99.97% efficiency, it's really big, in of itself can be a restriction but really helps to keep the oil clean of contaminates. Since then I have gotten Moes 87mm TB. Over the weekend, I ported the Intake manifold because there was a small 1.5mm lip where the TB meets the intake. On the '13 the intake plenum is just shy of 83mm and Moes TB goes from 87mm and necks down to 84mm. During this process of measurements, I checked my CIA measurements. the tubes are 90mm and tapers to meet at the TB in at 80mm.which is great for the stock TB. Wondering if this is negating the benefit of the new TB in at 87mm. I calleld Volant tech people and they said it would not since we are talking about the venturi effect and still out performs the stock tube. I'm not convinced they would even care. Any input from members would help me make a decision.

Generally speaking, any time you have variations in size or bends it will create turbulence. Turbulent air is restrictive air.

Either way, unless you put headers on to get more air out of the engine I don't think you'll notice any difference with the way the air is getting in.

That makes sense. I'll just deal with it when I put headers and muffler on next month. Thanks for the reply.

Right on!! I don't know why more guys don't port their IM if its a smaller diameter than the new ported TB.

I never realized it was an issue till I read your previous post. Checked mine, sure enough there was a lip. You get the points from that heads up, thanks.

This is their '13 CIA. I also read about those fitment issues but mine went in without a problem. I did take out the OEM box tray just incase there was a problem. Fit nicely in that spot. I also took an 1/8" off the intake tube at the box connection to have the tube sit squarely inside my 87mm TB but that would have been fine with stock 80 mm TB.

Been a few months. What's your opinion of the intake now?
I like how it's a performance intake / looks fairly stock.

I like it, but it became a restriction upper rpm range with my cam/ported heads. So, I use the Vararam for spring, summer, fall, and then I'll switch back to the volant during winter.
