Anyone tried to build a 3500 recently? I can't get any Laramie configuration to give me anything other than 4240 lb payload. The website says you should be able to get over 5600 lbs, but it won't show it on the configuration when you're done.

A little information about the website, it uses an algorithm to configure your build based on vehicles that are available nationwide. If there is no matching vehicles it will omit certain features as well as say some configurations are not available (i.e. can't have tan interior with monotone paint etc) your best bet is to contact a dealership and have them build it in VIOM. If it is not available in that system, then it is currently on restriction from the factory.

The website says you should be able to configure specifically a 3500 laramie for 5600 lbs payload? Or does it not specify a trim and says the 3500 can have up to 5600 lbs payload?

3500 4x4 with 5580 lbs payload on the website today. Shows you can get more payload if you give up 4wd. But can you configure one? I haven't been able to...

You need to select 4x2Screenshot_20220419-153316.png

But you need to understand that is max per configuration. That is a Laramie with no added options.

If you have options...the payload will go down

I understand that, and I expect that. However, no matter the configuration I put in, it gives me 4240 lbs payload. I find it hard to believe that every combination of features I have selected add up to the same weight. Trucks built and on dealer lots show the same capacity. Every single one of them. DRW, SRW, short bed, long bed, 5th wheel prep, hitch included, doesn't matter. All the same payload. I can look up used trucks by their VIN and get different values, but new trucks don't work on the look up site apparently.

Problem I have is, what options can I consider and still reach my target payload? The website as it is currently operating is useless for me. I have reached out to a couple dealers, but so far I don't have any feedback on what options can be selected and still be able to put 5200 lbs plus of cargo/people/pin in the truck.

The configurator will only give you generic numbers.

You need to find a similarly equipped truck for sale and use the VIN TO get an accurate weight.

The configurator will not gice that.

Just had a guy tell me his 1500 Laramie had 1840lbs of payload. Which the configurator says. Sent him to his door jamb. 1473.

A Laramie adds a lot of base weight and takes away from payload.

4500ish sounds about right for a loaded Laramie diesel

My current truck has horrible payload. Even with the HEMI, I only get 1286. Of course, the ramboxes and off road skid plates add up in a hurry.

Part of what I am struggling with here is the additional weight associated with the diesel, laramie, and 4x4 is already accounted for the 5580 generic number shown on the site. I want 5200. I should be able to get a few options inside that 380 lbs between those figures. I just can't believe the 5th wheel hitch really weight 1100 lbs by itself, surely that is 100 - 150 lbs max.

The configurator is not accurate by no means. Unless buying a tradesman with no options.

Even my tradesman is still 200lbs from the configurator number..and I have no options other than tow mirrors.

I have no other way to describe it than you need a VIN of a similar truck and ignore the payload.

Www.hdrams.com we have quite a few payload stickers and option lists to help if needed

So, I talked to a dealer that has a 2022 3500 Laramie HO 4x4 DRW Level B with max tow package in transit. He was able to check the payload on it and it came in at 5007 lbs. Clearly the website is spitting out bad numbers.

...and apparently I can't order a Laramie Quad Cab, either.

Just to close this out. I was able to find what I wanted. I now have 6700+ miles on a 2022 3500 Laramie Night Edition, 4x4, DRW, CCLB, Cummins HO, 4.10, all with a payload rating over 5200 lbs. Pretty happy with it so far! Definitely need the payload.
