My 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi truck has a weird alarm sounding when I start it up cold in the morning. Here's a link to see and hear what's going on. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Are you the original owner, or how long have you had it?
Did the noise persist or stop after a period of time?
And, are you not able to identify the noise source by listening under the dash?

It definitely sounds like an aftermarket device.

And, welcome.gif to Ram Forum.

Sounds like aftermarket GPS tracker wired into your vehicle. You gonna have to search under the dash to find it. Once you find, post a pic, there are a lot of threads on these devices.

Probably is on drier side , remove the knee panel ,that will let you see more.
Should be able to locate it once you open things .

I've had it a short while, bought it used about 3 weeks ago. Just started doing it in the last few days. If goes on for about 5 seconds then shuts itself off. I'll pull of the knee panel and check. Thanks...

Check for something plugged into the back side of the OBDII port. It's the most popular, least intrusive way to draw power for these devices in the cabin.

Nope, I'm familiar with the design, thanks.

The cover over the top of the tailgate provides a bit of added security.

My dive buddy had a fibreglass cover on his Ferd when we were in North Florida in 2005.
I recall it was somewhat of a PITA to crawl to the front of the box where he had the tanks stowed.

Lifting several sets of steel double tanks weighing about 130+ pounds per set, without being able to stand upright, was a bit taxing.

Yessum, U be 100% correct, royal PITA, and if I did it again, I would do a Roll N lock, than full cover. But the full cover painted to match vehicle body cover does set the vehicle off real well. Security, well it it fiberglass, but definitely keeps the bed of the truck purty dry.

ADDED: If I need to get ne thing big, instead of pulling the cover, which is a 2 man job, I just hook up my 14' trailer and use. A lot lower than truck bed and easier to load and use, just a small "fuel" adjustment.

LOL, I recall thinking that the cover looked great, being colour-matched and reasonably secure/water-tight.

I thought I might like to get one, but that ended immediately when I started loading/unloading gear into/out of his truck.

My buddy bought many trucks after 2005; he changed every year or two, but never bought another solid cover.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled thread.

To the OP, often enough, dealerships will install a tracking device to locate financed vehicles that the owners get behind with their payments.

Some of the larger dealerships choose to install one of these devices into their entire inventory, then try to sell it to the buyer as a security device. Maybe they save $ with their insurance.

Often, these devices are forgotten and abandoned, only to be discovered years afterwards, making unusual noises or a mystery box under the dash.

Yep, sure enough the dealer where I bought it had a GPS tracker put in and they forgot to turn it off. Thanks again for the help!

If the device doesn't contain an ignition bypass circuit, I'd just chop it out and toss it in the garbage.

A bit of research into the properties of the device might be prudent before heading in there with wire cutters.

Or, post pictures, and we might figure it out here, if someone doesn't recognize it and post comments.
