This is a true misconception. The 4x4 cost more up front, daily driving gets less mpg, in Iowa we "need" it 1-2 weeks a year but live with it all year long. The resale is not enough to make up for any of those costs down the road.

It is a personal thing for each person to choose that is why they make them that way.

I do agree that Chrysler needs to learn to build what the people want.

Depends where you live I can tell you in the north you can hardly give away a 2wd truck or SUV they may have NADA value and KBB value but here they simply are the black sheep and are very rarely sought after. Texas maybe but not here. I use my 4wd or at least Auto to be on the safe side probably 6 to 8 months out of the year. I could get by with a 2wd but they are a death trap on ice and get stuck a lot easier here. Front wheel drive is doable but rear is garbage.

You mean like Tuesday sweating and mowing the lawn and Thursday/Friday snowing 6 inches in May!!! Glad it is not sticking with us. Welcome to Iowa.

BTW on Wednesday it was 35 in NW Iowa and 87 in SE Iowa. Sounds like heaven eh.:(

Sounds like a hijacked thread now.

Yep, cooler here, but NO snow... LOT'S of rain though.

Leasing is a 4 point deduct here in Iowa so on a 40000-45000 truck that is a big number and it is better to "rent" a 4x4 vs 4x2.

On a lease I do not care what they (Manufacturer/Lease Company) can sell that is their problem not mine.

In 2005 I leased a loaded $40,200 ram for $150 per month 12k per year for 2 years. Could not pass on the deal. The residual value (what I can buy it for after the lease) was almost $30,000 so I turned it back in to Chrysler and the dealership purchased it back for $20,500 for the lot.

It matters to us. Our leasing program is MUCH different than most.

Hey! You live in Alex! I've got family that lives there. One of them owns a bunch of Sprint stores. Been there a couple of time snowmobiling. ;)

Well before everyone trashes one or the other, Maybe we should consider what and where you are going to use your truck, down south of the Mason/Dixon, Ive never had anything but 4x2 and Ive never gotten stuck, (including the few times weve had snow/ice). Would I buy a 4x4 because it snows really heavy every couple years? no, cant justify it, Am I going to take my 40K + truck off roading, I don't believe.

Originally Im from Cleveland, where, my brothers still reside and they have 4x4, justifiably. Lots more Snow and ice.

I use my truck to haul stuff I couldn't get in a car, don't need 4x4 for that, but I do need the room.

I had a 4X4 for about a month, (just because the truck had everything else I wanted) and Im sure its nice to have if you need it, but I couldn't justify paying the extra gas, and 2-3K just to have.

Again, its all in where and how you plan on using your truck.

Just my .02 Thanks for readin'

Well before everyone trashes one or the other,

Don't think it was getting to the trashing level, just having an discussion on the 2 and 4 wheel drive is a debate that there is no loser or winner on.

Back to the topic, it sucks that Chrysler group was not on the ball and have the engine transmission combination that each truck owner would like to have be it a 2 or 4 wheel drive.

I had a 08 Ford F150 FX2 Sport before my Ram.
It was only 4x2 and it was a nightmare to resell because no one wants a 4x2... nor a ford

It's not that they don't want them, it's that they are a dime a dozen because they sell so many of them. In certain areas, 4x2's don't sell. You seldom see one here unless it's a work truck!

Not many Ford's sit used on the lots in Des Moines area but we are inundated with ****vrolet trucks.:boxed: Did a dealer search 100 miles from Des Moines for 2011 trucks and here is how they stacked up Chevy 352 - Ford 75 and Dodge 35 These are just the 1/2 ton varieties. Sorry did not do GMC but they are rarer around here because of the dealer network on them.

Eh I had a 2wd truck here in North Dakota before and really good set of snow tires and being easy with the right and left feet, I had no problems. Could I give the truck away now? Nope probably not but it served its purpose when I was in highschool, got me from A to B and I got to haul a few things.

Interesting train of thoughts here.... I live in SE TN. We might get a snow once or twice a yr and only a couple of inches so in reality that isn't much of a factor, and if it does snow I have two or three routes home from work that is very minimal hills.

I am basically buying this for the ease of packing and unpacking every weekend during travel softball. There will be times I will use it to haul things or maybe pull a trailer or two but that is secondary. We need room to pack stuff and travel in some kind of comfort for the long drives. I am not talking a couple of hours but multi day travel cross country for at least the next six years.

I hope you have a good evening...

That definitely justifies a 2WD to me. I don't really need the 4WD where I am here in MD either, but I had to get it just because I would have felt weird having a truck without it since my last vehicle had it too. Whatever Ram you do wind up getting, you're gonna have a lot of fun driving it that much. I never want to get out of mine.

The 8-speed roll out definitely leaves a lot to be desired. My local dealer has had 1 8-speed come through (Quad Cab Hemi) and that was it. The rest have been 6 speeds.

As for the 4wd vs 2wd, I live in an area where 4wd is mandatory a good 6 months out of the year. Also, many of our county roads are not paved and rut out pretty good after a nice rain storm so I've even had to use it in the Summer.

In my opinion, you don't need a 4wd truck until you DO, and it's at that point where you end up being up a creek without a paddle. But I respect the folks that are fine getting by with 2wd.

interesting opinions in here....

i live in buffalo ny, we get some pretty good storms here.

ive had 4x4, fwd, and rwd. i'll take rwd over any other for my vehicles, which is why my truck is a 2wd. didnt like the fwd or the 4x4 in the snow. pulled all over the place where as the 2wd/rwd goes where you want it to go.

my best vehicle to date in the snow was actually my bmw 3 series, straight 6 manual trans rwd. was amazed how well it performed in the snow. point and go, no matter the input it did exactly what you wanted it to.

i hate that you cant turn off traction control but only "reduce" it on the 2wd rams. tuner here i come.

it is frustating that they dont build what you want. i really wanted a manual trans behind the hemi....im not used to this automatic stuff.

Lets :beatdeadhorse5: flat:
Thunderstorms are also a frequent reason to drop into 4X4--especially the total white out dumpers we get on the eastern seaboard. hydroplaining is frowned upon around here. :shakehead:

Yup we had one of those here last week. I had to pull off the highway because I literally couldn't see in front of my truck more than a couple feet.

I'm going to add my .02 here. I Have been around probably 10 trucks that has been in my family. all of them 2wd except my current Ram, its a 4X4.

When I bought it back in 2005 it was a no brainier. for the cost difference it wasn't that much. I will never go back to a 2wd unless it is 2nd vehicle.
