What’s behind this body trim?!

Just bought a Dodge Ram 1500 just wondering if anyone has removed the lower trim before . Step rail and the rest of the trim. Is it painted under the trim? Extra holes?

Yes those are aftermarket made by Lund. They are held on with many screws and a brace under the step portion. One of my trucks came them.

It is painted under the trim. My son has a 97 Ram with body trim like that, we took it off and it had full paint underneath. Running without trim now.

Also, all of the holes for the mounting screws were not visible once the trim was removed.
