Replaced the spark plugs. Easier than anticipated. Even easier than many other V8. Old ones had 104k miles, felt the difference immediately.
Also got a load of tongue and groove lumber for my livingroom. This truck has been a lifesaver during the home renovation. 20201108_130733.jpg

Question for those who have lifted their Ram and have 35" plus tires.....

1. Do you still carry the oem spare and jack?

2. and if you don't, what do you have in place, if anything?

Was looking at mine yesterday asking myself, "... why do I even have this anymore?"

Don't want to go "baja style" either.

Include pics if you have as well :waytogo:

I'm in exactly the same thought train. My spare won't match my wheels/tires in size, so I'm just carrying the weight for nothing. I'm not sure what I'd put back there.

Sold my spare with the stock wheels held on to the Jack, I have a level & 1.5” bl so should still work though might need a block underneath, but currently don’t have a spare. I did remove the winch for the spareC692933E-69B8-44C2-B459-6D68E537EC83.jpeg

Excuse my ignorance to the subject but why wouldn't you want to carry the spare? In my eyes having something back there is better than being stranded if you got a flat. At least you'd be able to limp it to somewhere besides the side of the road right??

Great idea :waytogo:

Center console rear vents would get obstructed on mine though.

Blocked like this sure...but then just cut away some beveled portions of foam at the vents allowing air flow. (FOr those with the vents in place of course.)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

thank you! I had the dealer locate this exact truck as I had a few demands, which included this color. Took a little longer to get, but worth the wait.

I have 35's and still have my spare and OEM jack....no idea why I still have them. I should probably shed them since they currently have no use.

The size difference would be drastically off from the factory tire to the size some of us run. The steering would be unsafe, imo. For those running factory tires, then the spare is still useable.

How is it any different from running a donut. They are almost always smaller than a factory tire aren't they? If I had to use it to get to the nearest gas station I wouldn't think twice about...

I should add I'm on 35s myself. I'm not saying I'd run it hard. Hell I'd probably even suggest moving a good tire to the rear if its a rear that needs replaced just so you reduce driveline heat but for a few miles and speeds under 45 I don't think I'd rather sit on the side of the road waiting. Guess thats just me though...

For running the "donut" spare on cars, the diameter is typically the same, but the width is not, which is why your speed is restricted when used. The issue comes in that with a larger tire/wheel combo the diameter difference is much greater and now your looking at a situation like a jacked up shopping cart wheel. Now try to drive your Ram around.... wouldn't be pretty or safe as "Shadowhawk" mentions.

I get it that in some situations having a "smaller" diameter setup might be better than nothing at all, but this would be rare.

If I was going off the beaten trail then yes, I'd likely toss a "proper spare" in the bed for the journey, but my question is really coming more from a day to day event.

Well I spent a few hours last night at the body shop peeling old decals off my RamBox bed. Got the bed, grill, front bumper cover all ready to paint. Still working on the tailgate with getting the letters off. Looks like we are going to have to block out the tailgate before painting, just another task to do. The guys at the shop are staying late tonight to get all sprayed. Gona spend a bit tomorrow cleaning the rear frame and such before the bed is installed. More to come!

That's not true - in almost all cases they are smaller in all dimensions to save space and weight.

Pulled from Tire Rack's site:

"While some of today's vehicles are equipped with spares that match the other tires and wheels on the vehicle, they are in the minority. Now most vehicles are originally equipped with a "temporary-use" spare tire and wheel that probably differs in size and construction from the other tires and wheels on the vehicle. And some vehicles are even delivered without a spare tire and wheel thanks to the extended mobility provided by modern run-flat tires or temporary repair and inflation systems.

Temporary/Compact Spare tires are physically shorter and narrower than the vehicle's standard tires and wheels. Their smaller dimensions require they operate at higher inflation pressures (typically 60 psi) than standard tires. Temporary/Compact Spares also feature lighter-weight construction and a shallower tread depth than standard tires to reduce vehicle weight, as well as allow more trunk space to be dedicated to luggage. "

I mean as mentioned before, to each their own but I'd take my chances with a wheel that was smaller in any dimension as opposed to being stranded.
