6.4 Gas with factory 4:10’s i tow a 13,000lb Toyhauler.
Will likely go to a 295/70/18 tire.

should I go 4:88 or 5:13?

Have you towed with this setup yet and are unhappy with it? 4.10 is already a pretty stout towing gear, since you’re not going up huge in tire size, and you’re well below your current max tow rating as it is, I personally don’t see the need to increase as drastically as you’re asking. But you’re the one that drives it, not me.

It’s doesn’t do bad but not good either.
I’m looking to gain some gear advantage and if I do add slightly larger tires I don’t want to loose rpm.

^^ what he said, your not going up much in tire size if you already have the factory 18" tires. I would say try towing before making the gear change, correct the speedometer for the new tire size to more accurately determine mileage/fuel economy.

this chart shows rpm vs mph.
Left is stock tires with 4:10
Right is 4:88 with 295/70/18

I have read no Speedo calibration is required

I have towed almost every other weekend for the last 3 months. It could use some help.

I don’t. My truck is purpose built, and towing isn’t its purpose.

Edit: not to say that I haven’t, and that I’m not experienced in towing. It’s just not what my truck does on the regular

Make the appointment! I went with 4.56 and sometimes wish I went lower. Cooper 35’s that measure 33.5 installed makes these rpms-

Thanks that helps allot. I just ordered my leveling kit and helper bags and will order my 295/70/18 Falken AT on Monday. I will get that installed and see how it ties the trailer. The. I will move forward with gears. Most likely 4:88.

Question do you think you have the same power as stock with the 35’s and 4:56?

Yes, probably still a touch better. These tires are actually fairly short for a 35 and makes for good rpm’s in 5th. I had 295’s before these tires and rpm was a little higher than those pics, 100 or so.

I tow a 13k lbs 5th wheel with mine. I had 4.10 factory, and she did reasonably well for a gas engine towing heavy. However, a mentioned elsewhere, I now have 4.88 gearing. I have 34" tires, equivalent to the 295/70/18s you mentioned possibly getting.

I have yet to tow my rv, but towing small trailers it does well. Power wise, it feels the same there, but it runs in a higher gear now as opposed to stock. So lower rpms while cruising.

We have the same situation then. My Toyhauler is 13,700lb and I’m ordering. My tires tommorow 295/70/18. I’m wanting to gain some added power. So I want to do more than compensate for the tires.
