I'm looking to buy this truck to get by for a couple years or more. It had only 89k. I'm in upstate ny . I want to get a new one but will be in much better shape financially in 2 years. Not to mention I have a dui that I got 3 yrs ago so that will hurt me on insurance. I was told (by dui class instructor) they can only raise rates for 5 years legally for a dui even though it stays on your record 10. Anyway I saw the truck on a lot and stopped to look at it. Nobody was there. It needs 2 rear tires. There wasn't any rust. It had some light scratches and dings. But it looked like there was some possible oil leaking from the motor. I couldn't see where from. I'm going back tomorrow to get a better look while someone's there. This time ill b able to open the hood and take a rriend who knowsabout engines. The guy is asking $4900. Its a small lot not a big dealer. Can u guys give me a ball park figure if all is ok and nothing major wrong. Thanks. I had a 02 blue quad cab 5.9 4x4 back in 2004 and loved that truck. Thanx a million!

Test drive it and also see what kinda miles are on it. Sounds like an old fleet truck for running parts around town.

Thanks for replying guys. Went and took a good look at it. Guy has a small lot with a dealers license and does auctions. Said he took it on a trade. Noticed a tiny bit of moisture at theend of power steering hoses running down from the reservoir. Might just need a clamp tightening or a new hose. Also had a little moisture around transmission pan. Maybe a little rtv fix. I was told it has to go in for inspection before he sells it. Not sure if the tirez have to be replaced. Going to test drive it tomorrow. Owner *** at an auction. We had the key hut no plates to test drive it. It sounded great. Went through the gears smoothly. Hopefully it will b mine tomorrow. My honda cruiser will sit on that bednicely without touching the tailgate.it had 89000 miles.

By the way, I've seen where people do NOT recommend trans. Fluid changes unless there is somethkng wrong. What is the reason for this? The fluid on this truck was clean and did not smell. And like i said it shifts very smoothly . If it needs a new gasket (if that's what they use) or rtv its going to need all new fluid anyway right? Should I let it go. There is nothing on the ground. I just don't want to cause a problem by changing it. thanks again

Don't buy a V6.

I was under the impression you already had one and was wanting to sell it.

They're underpowered and get crap mileage for their lack of power.

I don't care about the power. I'm not even towing anything right now. The most weight ill have behind/on it is my 2 motorcycles . Don't all dodge trucks get bad mileage unless you spend $30k on a new one?

No.

General consensus is that a Quad Cab, Shortwheel base, 4x4 Hemi truck will get around the same MPG as a V6 truck (maybe a tad less), however, it will have almost 200 more HP.

You will kick yourself if you get the V6, trust me. You don't know how many guys I've seen asking about Hemi or even 4.7 swaps to get out from under the 3.7 V6. The ONLY saving grace with the V6 is that it's easier to find in manual form.

Go with a V8 now, you'll be glad you did.

Thanks dude. I agree with you. The hemis do get about the same. But, unfortunately right now like I said I'm in a financial situation for a while and I have a price range. I cant find one close to $4500 or under in my area. I need a vehicle NOW! I have another vehicle that the rack and pinion went and I'm not putting the money into it. It needs a lot more than that so I cant be too choosy.

I don't know where you live, but you should be able to find a single cab 1500 with a 4.7 for around $4500...might be beat up a bit, but it'll work.
