Cut off the bottom part so you don't have the entire frame, wire into the reverse lights.

Might look alright? You'll just have the LED's mounted on the black at the bottom of the tail light.

I'd rather just smoke the tail lights though.

That would be correct JJ. You can have no white light emitted directly to the rear while in forward motion.
