Are you talking about price? IF so, you can normally find the Superchips 3865 programmers for like $280 new...if you search around on forums for used, you shouldn't pay any more than $150 for it.

If you're talking about what they're worth as far as a performance gain, I can't really say, because that's a avenue I have yet to travel with my 4.7. I have some friends that have, and they were pleased.

In most cases, I would say the tuner if the FIRST thing you should get if you plan on any engine performance mods.

Gears are definitely on the list!!! This truck has 3.55's and it just is dead. I want to goto 35 inch tires but i will not make the leap until i gear it up. Looks like i'll look for a used programmer and take it from there

Adding a tuner to a gas engine is not going to be anywhere near as drastic as it was when you put one on your diesel engine. Superchips claims about 20hp and 20ft lbs of tq increase with their tuner.

They are worth it, but you are not going to get 100+hp gains like your Ford probably did. What tuner did you use on the Chevy?
The reason I ask is because ive put tuners on several vehicles and almost gave up on them because gains were so minimal that I didnt want to waste the money again. After reading all the great reviews about the Diablosport tuner on the Hemi I found one used and that revived my faith in tuners.

Your gonna deff want gears if your gonna go to a 35" tire and you currently have 3.55s. Are you 4x4 or 4x2?

4x4 I am more then able to do the gears myself so cost won't be as bad .. I have a hypertech in my Tahoe. I just want to build the truck wisely as I will be using it to tow with. I would get into how much ill be towing but it seems unpopular to push the limits on some of these forums.

My ultra flow catback just showed up and my filter setup will be here tomorrow. So things are moving nicely. I've had the truck a little more then a week and Im already tearing into it :waytogo:

for tuners the most popular for these years are the superchips 3815. Ive got one in the mail that I found used online and will let you know what I think. Lots of people claim they really wake up the truck. I also have the 3.55 gears and Im running 33's

I would get the 3865 over the 3815 for the advanced transmission options. The 3815 would have had them, but they don't have enough memory to support the added trans features.

Im not sure with him being an 02 if the trans is supported. Correct me iff wrong but I think 04 up recieved the trans support through SC and 05 up for DSP. If he is wanting to toss in cams down the road (4.7 cams are hard to find as of late) or do an 08 intake swap he might be able to get custom SCT files written but that will also have no trans suppport.

I've read 02's are not trans supported. I will be ordering a 02 GC TCM to get that 5th gear , and i did all the other basic upgrades to the trans already.
I'm not looking to crack the valve covers open and do cams i have a drag car for that and work on that enuff when i break it . I'm just looking to extract the most from it in stock form. The minute i feel it needs cams I'll sell it. I feel there is enuff here to do the job, 80% daily driven and 20% towing. In days passed i raced every other weekend all up and down the northeast but times have sadly changed between kids and the economy it is more like once a month and i rarely driving further then 4 hours away anymore.

I'm pretty positive the gears and basic mods will do the job. I'm looking for real world data on the programmer.

Yeah, its either 04 or 06 and up that support transmission tuning so 3865 is useless to me anyways
