I am starting to get pissed off. They can't figure it out and the sound is getting more constant. I'm not sure what to do. We don't really have a lemon law up here in BC. I'm taking it to another dealership to see if they are any better at diagnosing the problem. I wonder if a letter to Chrysler would accomplish anything. Sigh

So they phoned and said the Belt tensioner needs to be replaced. Its on national back order and won't be in for a couple weeks. Lol of course.

I have dealt with Carter (bought my 1500 there). Before that I was told to avoid Maple Ridge at all costs. Since the lack of interest from Carter i'm going to the next closest dealer on Marine in Vancouver.

Do all Dodge dealerships suck or is Marine ok? Honestly, they should all go to Metrotown Mazda for lessons on service/communication. I used them for 11 straight years, never had any issues like this.

LOLOL! Yup, and yet to be seen if they scorched the alt bearing. Too funny.

Obviously this is a known issue. Why else would it be on back order. They also got me to pick up the truck and said nothing more can go wrong driving it with the bad tensioner.......lol

Metal to metal contact causes heat, I would be very careful bud. Maybe don't park it in the garage after a long trip just for an abundance of caution. At least check it a couple times after a long trip before parking inside, especially since we have that big useless plastic cover that could get to a gas source if it was on fire.

So they replaced the belt tensioner and the problem went away for maybe a day. The squeaking is back. Its not as constant or loud yet but it is still there. I am taking it to a different service department on Tuesday. Im getting pretty frustrated to say the least.

It was the belt tensioner like I said, but what happens is when that is out of whack it causes the bearings to fail, so they should have replaced the bearings and the BT at the same time. Anyhow, now that the tensioner is good, replace the bearings or the entire alt if you have too, and you "shouldn't" run into this again. This same thing happens over and over everyday, they must have known they scorched your bearings but just choose to try and do as little as possible to satisfy the customer. I guess you can't blame them for that, but if I was the mechanic on that job you would have had new bearings before I returned the truck. I wonder if he even shot lube down your bearings after replacing the tensioner. Anyhow, once the bearings are scared, they will never be the same and everyone knows that.

Would this cause my engine to miss. It almost sounds like the timing is off. The squeaking doesn't start until the truck is at operating temperature and it is at idle for 10 minutes or longer. Getting frustrated with this issue.

So the dealer said it was the water pump and they are adding an additive to stop the squeaking. If after a month it doesn't stop they will replace it. Anyone ever heard of this?

my truck has been making a similar squeak for several months now and I'm finally getting around to taking it to the dealer... I could spray silicone on the belts and it would go away for a few hours and then always came back...

We will see what they say...

I went to get my truck and it sounded worse so I told them to replace the water pump and call me when the issue is fixed. I also got a loaner from them to drive. This is what they gave me lmao

My loaner was a KIA Soul (which has none) so I know how you feel!

Its a weird feeling jumping out of a Ram into a Fiat. Felt like I was in a go kart.

Now they told me they have to use the additive to run in the water pump because it is policy before they can replace it. This is buckshot. Anyone heard of an additive that fixes a noisy waterpump on a brand new vehicle?

If the tensioner was indeed bad and that is bearing noise, then there is ZERO possibility an additive in your cooling system would help. Did they take a stethoscope and determine it is the water pump? They must have because they wouldn't say it is a WP if it was the alt, it is a much harder fix. Go get one, they are like 5 bucks, and double check if it is the alt or the WP.

Mechanics Stethoscope.

So let me verify, the squeak is and has been constant, yes? Replaced tensioner and it was gone for a bit?

They said it is definitely the water pump. They just told me Chrysler policy is to try the additive for 5 days. Apparently it works to quiet down these water pumps 80% of the time. If after 5 days it is still making noise Chrysler will authorize a water pump replacement. My concern is if it is making noise something must be broke. So adding an additive is just a band aid fix imo.

I have had water pump whines before, and that doesn't sound like it to me. Sounds like a bearing, coolant additive wont get to the bearing. Generally water pumps don't go out with such low miles as well. It's all good, at least they are attempting to fix it.

Is the additive in now?
