My local accessory dealer has the bakflip trifold hardcover one (G2 I think?) that sits inside the edges of the bed and uses gutter rails along the side to drain water out the back and it locks if your tailgate locks. My brother has it on his RAM and says it leaks rainwater into his bed even with those drain chutes despite what bakflip says on their website.

I need a tono that folds completely against the back of the cab, which bakflip does, but I also want it to sit on top of the bed edges not inside it because the G2 is not as waterproof as they claim it is. Is there a bakflip that does that, or do I need to find another brand?

All the BAKflip covers will sit on top of the rails just a bit. And they will leak just a little. They don't poor the water in. Mine don't deal right against the tail gate. So it will let some water in during very heavy rains or when a pressure washer is ran across it there. But other than that it's very water resistant. I've had some mulch laying in my bed since December that is still dry other than at the tailgate. If your brothers is leaking really bad. Then his seals in the hinges must be worn and cracked.

Ok thanks, I'll keep looking but I really need one that sits flush to the cab so I can put my ATV in w/o having to remove it. I guess a good solution if I want total waterproofing for other stuff would be to use rubbermaid bins

I installed a Tonnopro hard fold which looks great and keeps all the water out. Took 10 minutes to install and less to remove. Cost $530 shipped to my door. uploadfromtaptalk1425996390479.jpg

If it is installed correctly the BakFlip rails barely intrude into the bed. I wouldn't think it can interfere with fitting an atv in the bed. You will probably find that all covers leak a bit around the tailgate. Maybe your brother's cover needs to be adjusted or the side seals are deteriorated. Also, have him make sure the rails are set properly in place because if not the rails will ride too high and the side seals don't make firm contact with the truck bed top rail.

I don't use drain tubes on my BakFlip VP and is pretty rain tight.

I debated on a 1pc vs. tri fold. For my purposes (park outside under trees that drop pine needles and use my utility trailer for hauling) the 1pc made sense and I am happy with my Undercover Classic. But I do think the tri folds are better looking. In my research and talking to random owners I determined if I bought a tri fold it would have been the Undercover Flex

When it's folded up to the end. It will only reach out about 6" into the bed area. And only take up around 1.5" on each side of the bed for the rails.

Bakflip VP here. Has not leaked yet.

As mentioned before, proper setup has alot to do with how well sealed it is.

Bakflip G2 here, no leaking problem. Only time anything gets in the back is around the tailgate (snow blowing in etc) which I'm going to fix with some weatherstripping.

I have the Undercover Flex and have no leak issues. It is very similar to the Bakflip, but when you fold it up, it doesn't rest against the cab and rub your paint, it props up vertically in place and is held there by 2 props. When folded up like that, I have full use of my bed except the last 4 or 5 inches, but ATV wheels would roll under that.

See link for pics folded up:
http://www.undercoverinfo.com/products/flex

Oh, and when you fold it once or twice, you can strap it in place so the wind won't grab it going down the road.

Pics below of the Bakflip and how it rests against the cab when fully folded and no way to secure when partially folded making is acceptable to wind lift.

^ Not sure what you're seeing on that page, but I can secure each panel of my Bakflip in sequence. It locks each panel in place.

So when you unfold one panel and have it resting on the other, it is locked like that and the wind can't catch it going down the road and flip it up? I know each panel locks in the down position, I was referring to the open position.

Ahhhhh ok gotcha, yes it locks down but not up.

Solved though with the use of a small strap [emoji3]

I might go with the flex then, I didn't realize the bakflip rubs against the cab

Ordered my Bak Roll-X this weekend at TonneauFactoryOutlet. Forum member/vendor BakFactoryOutlet (Morrie) got me a great deal as a Ramforum member.

Plus there is a $50 mail in rebate this month from BAK.
