Hey guys,

I'm on the verge of purchasing my first Ram, a 2004 Ram 1500 with the 5.7.

Currently, I drive about 60 miles to work or roughly 600 miles per week. I am trading in my Subaru Impreza for the Ram so I am basically cutting my fuel economy in half. Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I've wanted a Ram since I was in high school and with the amount of time I spend driving, I want to be driving something I enjoy.

What is your commute like?

I do 4000km to 5000km(2,480 to 3100 miles) per month. This truck is the most fuel efficient V8 I have ever driven. That being said it's still a truck. So it is hard on the pocket for gas.

I traded in my 2010 with 175,000km(108,740 miles) and I put 4500km (2,790 miles)on the 2013 in the first month. Most of this is city driving with a trailer about 75% of the time.

I get 550km (341 miles)out of a tank pulling the trailers. 600 to 650km(370 to 400 miles) city without the trailers and 850 to 900km(530 to 560 miles) highway.

I have a 2007 QC SB 5.7L and the gas mileage is that of a truck but also depends on the gearing the truck as well.

Seems the guys with the 3rd gens and 3.55 gearing get better gas mileage then I do but I also have the 3.92 gearing so it is better at towing then saving gas.

That being said, I recently did a 200 mile trip and maintained 75-80MPH and got 14mpg on that trip which was just highway miles.

If you get a newer 2009+ truck, the gas mileage is a lot better but also costs a lot more as I see you are looking at a 2004. Some guys also get a truck and use that for personal time and a cheapo car for commuting to and from work.

Unfortunately, I can't afford a newer truck right now and I'm getting rid of my fuel efficient car for the truck. I have a lifted jeep for my toy. I can afford the gas and my insurance is basically going to be cut in half going from the Subaru to the truck.

It kinda depends on where and how you drive. If you're commuting via the freeway with free moving traffic you shouldn't see that much of a difference.

Lol. I wish!
