I suppose a light tint would make sense,
similar to whats on the LED's in the chop.

JJ, on the set you did in the video with the Halo's,
those LED signals look Black, maybe a little too dark (IMHO)
Did you use Nite Shades so the signals still shine though?
How many coats?

Too bad you don't still have them, I'd like to see how bright the flashers are.

I think I would want one less coat on the LED's and Amber reflectors if possible.

did you just say nite shades!?!?!? what kind of half assed goofy**** operation do you think I'm running?

We don't use VHT. We don't plastidip........lets make it really clear, if it comes out of an aerosol can........its not hitting my workbench. :)

So, anyway, we tinted those. If you want to have that done, we can do that to yours as well.

Tint, by what ever means possible, please!
as long as it looks good I don't care how it happens :)

I ran a pretty thorough google search and finally found a set with the Chrome Shrouds blacked out,
BUT with no tint on the reflectors or LED signal lens, it looks like a job only half done for some reason.

Then I found a couple pics myoung84 posted of your handy-work that looks a little closer to what I think need done....

Perfect! that's the money shot I was looking for!

I can't afford the $650+ full retro FX-R upgrade, and don't drive at night often enough to justify them,
but might just opt for the 35w/5K drop in HID kit this time (with canbus adapter) for +$155

If I go that route, do I keep my current 10' to 13' adapter harness or do those get shipped back with the heads?
I'm guessing I'll still need those, but want to be sure. Packaging them up tonite and sending tomorrow.

I tend to agree. I think mine would have looked better with a tint on the signals and side markers.

Unfortunately it would also likely effect the ability of the reflectors placing me at odds with my coworkers in the highway patrol office next door.... So I passed for now.

JJ do you know if the tint effects reflector output when the lights are off? Thinking along the lines of being able to see reflected light coming back from an unlit vehicle parked on the side of the road at night.

On a side not my halos already have LED's burning out..... guess that's what I get for buying from the bargain bin with the big sign on it that says no warranty or refunds. Might have to do it all over again next spring. Didn't get them from JJ.

Any recommendations for quality amber single colour halos? Something that's black when not lit would be awesome too!

Just curious if the reflector has to be amber?
...because there is black reflective tape that only shows up bright silver
when a light source is shined on it.

Google "Black Reflective Tape", its quite popular with Motorcycle riders
looking to be more visible to traffic, especially at night.

x2 If those sweet amber halo's would last a Canadian Winter,
and were black when turned off I would probably be interested too.
JJ could probably Nite Shade them LOL

No the reflector doesn't need to be amber. The stock ones are silver. I'd think that if you mounted some inside the housing in such a way that it reflects the light from another light source then you would be legal even with the signals tinted. They use a similar white tape on the police cars to make them more visible at night when the red and blues aren't on. Good idea!

I'll chat up the traffic guys and see what they think.at this rate I doubt my halos will last the winter. At least opening them up the next time will be easier.

Sorry JJ. Back on topic.

Those halos rock!

The reflectors work great still even after being tinted. I'd smoke them right out until only a hit of Amber can be noticed, all my rides have no amber reflectors on them lol

And VHT nite shades is a great product just gets a bad rep for people not using it correctly or finishing it.
Also plastidip is out and flexidip is in(half price of plastidip lol)

Mike, shoot back your questions in email please. Hard to keep track of the multiple streams of stuff here ;) Email keeps it in one spot.

We'll get 'em where (And how) you want 'em!

First "oops" was a blessing in disguise.

New Heads just arrived at noon today,
I had to rush home because according to my tracking info
my package got dropped on the front porch and left all alone ...WTF?!?!?

At least there were no additional postage/brokerage fees or taxes this time. (and JJ picked up the Shipping for the goof up)

I think we got it right this time :favorites13: (in more ways than one)

...hard to get a good pic with all the reflections

I'm not seeing any wires for the HID upgrade,
So I guess you managed to "Tetris" the Ballasts and CanBus adapters inside.
Thanks Bud!!!

Neat little plug and play package!

in case I didn't mention yet, AWESOME Customer Service!!!!

Tint turned out great, amber reflectors look totally black from the front,
but still work and light up from the camera flash from the side...

LOL!

whatcha doing this weekend?

I may need to measure the location of the hole in your wifey's 13' fenders
for the headlight aim adjusters (and a hole saw).

I still need to take a few night time before pics of the old quad setup beam output
(with and without tinted covers) to compare with the new HID PJ's output.

...still haven't tinted my tails yet either, got everything I needed except the time to do it :uhoh2:
