Greetings! I have a 2007 Ram 1500 4x4 4dr Thunder road 5.7 Hemi auto. I just spun a rod bearing (I believe - haven’t torn it apart yet). I have been offered the purchase of a complete wrecked 2013 2wd 1500 Hemi. Is it possible to bolt the newer Hemi into my truck? Has anyone done this? I know moving the eagle top end onto the 3rd gen short block is a thing... has anyone done this? Looking for options and walkthroughs. So far, my options are:

1. Buy the new truck and swap the engine into my truck. Part out the 2013.

Potential problems: I have no idea if this is possible.

2. Buy the new truck and swap the top end onto my short block once rebuilt. Part out the 2013

Potential problems: I don’t know what parts will swap and/or what’s required. No clue what cam to use, or where to source stronger parts for the rotating assembly.

3. Forget the 2013 and rebuild what I have.

Potential problems: I really want to make use of this opportunity to make more power and get rid of MDS and other issues.

Can anyone shed some light on a direction for me? I can’t find any detailed walkthroughs for this - only posts that say someone has successfully done it.

PLEASE - no opinions about it. I need hard facts and I need them quickly. The 2013 is for sale locally and I may lose access quickly. My truck is my DD and I need it functional again ASAP. Thanks!

1. Unless you're willing and/or able to do or have done a ton of PCM and harness changes along with possibly losing some functionality (like cruise control), plus the programming needed to try and get the modules to all play nice with each other. Your stock PCM can't run a later VVT engine. What you could do is rip the crank out, change the reluctor wheel, then lock the VVT phaser and then your PCM would run it, but then you run into the problem of having to customize your accessory drive to amtch the engine as the truck eagle has a different setup than it's predecessors.
2. Can be done, but not the hot ticket for getting back it on the road quickly. You'll either need a much thicker head gasket (and matching longer pushrods) to keep the compression ratio manageable or have the chambers opened up. Your stock intake manifold will then be the choke point and honestly an eagle head swap isn't worth it unless you're gonna cam it. Any other intake manifold besides your stock one will require rearranging your accessory drive slightly to accommodate the TB opening. Eagle intake will also need spacers to elevate it above the temp sensor up front. You will also need a custom tune to not only tune the engine correctly, but to get rid of the CEL that will follow as eagle heads do not use EGR (yours does).
3. This if it's your DD and you need it back on the road quickly. You can always get the eagle top end and save it for later when you aren't time crunched.

To get back on the road the cheapest and easiest way would be to rebuild your current engine. For more power you can drop a stroker in it and cam. Replace the heads with cnc ported ones and a custom tune and she will be a hot rod...
