I have a 2023 RAM 1500 Bighorn with 5.7 HEMI with etorque. On occasion I use it to tow a small enclosed car trailer with car.

I just installed a Superwinch 7500 in the trailer. I know that the winch is typically powered by a battery that would sit in the trailer, next to the winch. Initially, that's how I'll use it, but I'm looking for a potential better way to power the winch from the RAM. Most of the reason for this is not wanting to have to carry and constantly charge the battery for the winch. A friend who has an early 2000's diesel pickup who ran two heavy welding cables up to one of the batteries, and uses cam -lock pin and sleeve style connectors to the winch under the truck.

That's not a bad idea. My question is should I be concerned with doing something like that especially having etorque and the vehicle still being under warranty? Do you have any other suggestions/ idea's?

I'd love to get your thoughts.

Thanks in advance....

Rick

Still use a battery on the trailer to power the winch and use the +12V from the 7pin to recharge the battery, a DC to DC charger is an option to use.
Also put a solar charger on the battery box to help keep the battery charged if the trailer is infrequently used.

Thanks crash...
Good ideas....
To clarify, are you saying to use the +12V from the 7 pin connector to charge the battery directly, or use the 12V to drive a DC to DC battery charger?
I also like the solar cell power idea to maintain the battery.

You could just direct wire the +12V from the 7pin but without some form of isolation it could run down the truck battery if left plugged in. The DC to DC charger would act as a buffer between the truck and trailer batteries. I usually like to throw out several ideas as some people like having all the bells and whistles where as others want to keep it simple and it isn't worth the extra $$.
I would buy a couple extra fuses for the trailer +12V as a just in case. I carry extras for all the trailer brake/light circuits.
