Wiring in backup camera?

Gonna be installing the cam on my kenwood soon. I know the composite cable obviously plugs into the back of the unit, black wire to chassis, does the red just tap into the tail light wire for the reverse lights? My only confusion-there is a purple/white wire hanging right out the back of my kenwood ddx418 labeled reverse, and also the same color wire on the harness, but I don't have them spliced together yet. From my understanding, no wire taps should need done behind the head unit for it to switch on the cam when reverse is applied, just tap into it at the tail light, correct?

you need the manual and it should say there.

I wish I could help you, lol. The manual should say or if you don't have it, usually the manufacture's website will have a manual you can download

the purple and white wire coming out of the radio needs tapped into the reverse pos wire so when you hit reverse it triggers the radio to show the camera
