I have a 2014, 1500, with 3.55 open diff's. I wanted to change over to a 4.10 or a 4.56 with a limited slip. Ive just been told that the 2014's can not be converted in any amnner without swapping out the entire front and rear diff assemblies.

IS THIS TRUE?

Any reasoning behind that quote?

I'm a little old school, but I don't see any reason why the ring and pinion can't be swapped and a LSD unit added. Unless there is some new strange electronics that tie in with it somehow.

Is this at a dealership or aftermarket / off road - hot rod shop?

Maybe they are referring to warranty coverage if you install aftermarket goodies in a factory pumpkin (?)

I have not heard of this, though I have also heard of very few brand new 2014 owners modding a brand new truck just yet. Though I applaud your intentions. That will transform your truck from a freeway cruiser to a real effective and capable rig!

Two words:
ZF
Axles.

It's a pain on all of them but this is the first I've heard of this.

Half true. The complete front axle needs to be swapped because the ring gear is welded to the carrier and with 3.92s being the lowest factory option for that axle, a swap to a 2011 and older axle is needed for aftermarket support. The rear can be swapped to OEM 4.10s and OEM limited slip no problem, but when trying to fit 4.56s or any aftermarket gear/carrier is where you run into issues. There is hope though, as you can either get the OEM LSD machined to fit the older 12 bolt 9.25" 4.56s or buy an aftermarket LSD, gears, and a driver side axle shaft to recenter the LSD in the pumpkin.

Wow, what a complicated mess.

Makes that big Power Wagon payment even easier to justify.

If, you would be satisfied with just the 3.91's I found a used (stated 7k miles) front diff from a company on Ebay for $650 shipped. Plan I'm installing it in my truck eventually to get away from the 3.21.
