Drove 245 miles (one way) to Northern Michigan to pick up a new to me boat. PowerQuest Raizor 22ft with a 7.4 liter Mercruiser 454 big block. Boat, trailer and fluids (nearly empty gas tank) weigh about 4500 pounds and as expected the RAM pulled it like a dream. The surge brakes on the trailer are a different story, hasn't had any fluid in the reservoir for years so that will need a complete overhaul.

Unsure of fuel economy due to bigger tires and no tune but i filled up at home before I left and when I got to the destination I had a bit less than a half tank of gas. Filled up again before heading home with the boat and got home with about a quarter tank of gas. But who cares about gas mileage.

With the Airlift 1000 bags at 25 PSI there was next to no squat but the trailer has very little tongue weight which will need to be adjusted. Haven't gotten around to that yet.

Overall very pleased. :happy107:

Haha I know it. Also as they say, "borrow another thousand." Which is also true, been an expensive, but very fun couple of days.

Thank you all!

thats a big motor for that boat. im sure it will be a blast on the water. i wouldnt worry too much about the brakes unless your regularly pulling it long distance. ive never come across boat trailer brakes that worked reliably lol. then again we only have salt water near me so that could be why.

Nice boat, is that going to be out in Lake St Clair??

for rebuilding the trailer brakes, check out https://www.etrailer.com for everything you'll need. You may want to consider EOH disk brakes, they'll have kits complete with everything you need.

Danny - I agree and I'd rather not spend the money!

Crash - Yep, will be on St. Clair. Will trailer it around a bit, especially the remainder of this season. But next season will pick a marina on St. Clair. Will definitely look into EOH if the time comes. Thanks.

A word of caution. As a multi-time boat owner in Michigan, if you plan to leave the boat in a Marina, look into anti-fouling hull paint if your's doesn't have it.

You don't want to look at your hull at the end of the season without it. Mucho green growth will happen and it will reduce performance much more than you can imagine. The growth will also roughen the hull.

Talk to the locals about their experience. Have fun, nice outfit again.
